New GT-R Quarter-Mile World Record

September 25th, 2017

Another punch has landed in the fight to see who will have the quickest Nissan GT-R in the world at the end of the racing season.

The competitors in this main event matchup are Alpha Performance and Extreme Turbo Systems (ETS)/English Racing.

You may remember when Gidi broke the previous record for best quarter-mile elapsed time by running a 6.93-second pass. Dipping into the sixes was a huge event but it left many wondering who would strike the next blow.

With the boost turned up more than it had ever been before, Robert English and ETS answered that question on September 22, 2017 when they posted a 6.91-second pass at 195 mph. The car got really loose coming out of the trap and nearly made contact with the retaining wall but some skilled driving and nerves of steel saved the day.

Not being ones to shy away from adversity, Robert and the ETS crew chose to push the issue even further and try to dip deeper into the sixes.

After dialing the boost back just a skosh, the ETS GT-R managed to post a new world record pass of 6.88-seconds at a speed of 222 mph. That elapsed time is amazing and I might expect a top speed of that magnitude from a half-mile run.

You can bet that this fight is far from over. I can’t wait to see who strikes the next blow and how far into the sixes they can dip.
