2015 McLaren 650S Spider Launch Control Demonstration

July 16th, 2015

We have some initial test results from a 2015 McLaren 650S Spider using it’s launch control system along with a VBOX and GoPro to record the action.  Equipped with the factory provided Pirelli Corsa tires the McLaren 650S did amazingly well on the street with a 0-60 MPH time of just 2.8 seconds while continuing on to 100 MPH in 5.9 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of 10.55 @ 135.7 MPH.  This is with some slight tire spin at the top of 1st gear and the start of 2nd gear. These results are very impressive considering the hot and humid Read More

Tesla Model S P85D Insane vs Sport Mode 0-60 MPH Testing

January 6th, 2015

The all new 691 horsepower dual motor all wheel drive Tesla Model S P85D has two modes of acceleration available to choose from, Insane and Sport.  As we’ve seen and tested, INSANE mode is just that, insane, surprising everyone who’s driven or ridden in the car so far with it’s amazing grip, high G Forces and instant torque from a dead stop. We took the Model S P85D out with a VBOX and GoPro to test out the differences between the Insane and Sport modes from 0-60 MPH.   As you’ll see in the video below, in Insane mode the P85D lived up to it’s hype Read More

Tesla Model S P85D (691HP) vs P85 (415HP) Heads up Drag Racing

December 27th, 2014

Take a look at this video of a new Tesla Model S P85D with dual motors, all wheel drive and 691HP take on it’s predecessor, the P85 with a single motor, 415HP and rear wheel drive. The P85D pulled an astounding 1.29 G off the line absolutely leaving the P85 in the dust while it fought for traction.   The trouncing continued while the P85D kept pulling away putting car length after car length between the two until the P85 almost disappeared from view. In the 2nd video the two cars started from a 35 MPH roll to remove the P85Ds Read More

McLaren MP4-12C Fabspeed Motorsports Tune Testing

October 19th, 2014

Tuning and performance options have been quite limited for the McLaren MP4-12C as it’s a fairly new car and it takes time to get things moving in the tuning world.  We had some time testing the Fabspeed Motorsports Engine Turning Power Kit on the McLaren MP4-12C we’ve been working with over the past year.   The Fabspeed engine tuning kit for the MP4-12C has a list price of $5,295 and states  a 77 horsepower and 110 ft-lbs torque increase at the engine which would bring the McLaren from 616 HP to almost 700 horsepower. Since the MP4-12C we’ve been testing already Read More

Lamborghini Huracan Driving Event and 60-130 MPH Testing

September 4th, 2014

We had some time driving  the all new Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 at Palm Beach International Raceway’s 2 mile road course consisting of 11 turns and a 6/10 mile straightaway which was shortened a bit for this test event .  The Huracan is powered by a 5.2L V10 making 610 horsepower through a 7 speed dual clutch transmission and is set to arrive in the US in the next few months.  Our test car was Europe spec Huracan painted in Giallo Midas and was equipped with Lamborghini’s Magneto suspension, dynamic steering and bicolor alcantera racing seats. We the drove the Huracan in it’s most aggressive Corsa Read More

2014 Tesla Model S 85 kWh 0-60 MPH Testing

July 5th, 2014

We had some time with a 2014 Tesla Model S 85, the non-performance version and did a quick 0-60 MPH test run with the Vbox.  Tesla rates the Model S 85 at 362HP and a 0-60 MPH time of 5.4 seconds.   With the battery at less than 50% the Model S ran 0-60 in 4.9 seconds and 0-100 in 12.4 seconds. While this is well ahead of Tesla’s quoted numbers, we think it will do even better with a full charge.   We tested the base 60 kWh model a while back with a full charge was able to run 0-60 Read More

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale Launch Control Demonstration

March 27th, 2014

During our first test of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale we has some issues spinning the aged Pirelli PZero tires when using launch control both on the street and at the drag strip with a best time of 11.34 @ 125.5 MPH.  We swapped out the Pirelli’s for a new set of Toyo R888 tires and hit Palm Beach International Raceway again to see how the car performs with some better traction. Weather was great with temps in the mid 60’s with a DA of almost even.  We arrived a little late and with some of the track prep Read More

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale Dyno and Drag Strip Testing

March 1st, 2014

We’ve run our first set of tests with a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale, also know for short as the STS.    The Super Trofeo Stradale is Lamborghini’s all out race car for the street modeled after the real Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, the automaker’s exclusive annual racing series.   The STS is the lightest Gallardo available with a host of carbon fiber parts including a large adjustable rear wing and carbon fiber engine compartment lid, which is easily removable and held in place by a quick-release system pulled from the race car.  The STS is powered by a 5.2L V10 with a Read More

McLaren MP4-12C Aftermarket ECU Tune Testing

February 17th, 2014

We were at the last StreetCarDrags event on January 26th, 2014 at Palm Beach International Raceway with two McLaren MP4-12Cs to do some testing on an aftermarket ECU tune from Evolution Motorsports.   The tune consists of a ICM (Intelligent Engine Control Module) that intercepts a few of the MP4-12C’s sensors to increase boost pressure and adjust fuel pressure to increase horsepower from the stock 616 HP to 659 HP.  Cost for the Evolution Motorsports ICM is $5,250 which works out to $122 per horsepower. Both the stock McLaren MP4-12C and the one modified with the tune were running the same Read More
