$5000 Grudge Match – Kye Kelly vs. Street Beast

August 24th, 2016

It’s Outlaw Armageddon, a gathering of the biggest and baddest names in No Prep drag racing, and it seems that some inflammatory statements have been made. Kye Kelly, in particular, has taken exception to comments made by the chief of the Street Beast team – a man they call Doc. Doc is long on guts and short on patience. Now, there will be repercussions. In typical No Prep fashion, these will come in the form of a big money grudge race. Somebody said $2,500 and another said $5,000 – the first barked back, “$5,000 it is.” Now it’s on like Read More

Outlaw Armageddon – BOOST12 Mustang Dominates Small Tire Class

August 24th, 2016

The BOOST12 Cobra Mustang (prepared by Dean’s Perfromance) is arguably one of the baddest street cars on planet earth, with a big block Chevrolet engine and a pair of turbochargers. Nevertheless, it runs in the small tire class of No Prep Drag Racing. That can make it pretty challenging to even get down the track without an incident, much less win a fat wad of cash ($20K today) by making it through the finals. It’s Outlaw Armageddon and, after a successful night of testing, round one at Thunder Valley Raceway Park begins with the BOOSTED12 Mustang going against a capable Read More

Twin Turbo S10 Posts 8-Second Quarter-Mile

August 22nd, 2016

The thing that makes drag racing interesting is seeing a vehicle, like this 1987 Chevrolet S10 pickup that was never meant to go very fast, blast down the 1320 (feet) in less than 9-seconds at over 150 mph – time and time again! In my humble opinion, there are few things more satisfying than knowing that you have modified a vehicle so that it will do so much more than that for which it was designed. This compact pickup not only gets the job done on the track but it also proved that it can handle the rigors of Rocky Read More

Birkacup Street Elimination Tournament

August 19th, 2016

The Birkacup street eliminator has got to be the greatest single invention of the Swedish people. How awesome would it be to have a national street racing tournament, where the baddest cars in the land come to compete in heads-up single elimination dig racing? Of course, in the U.S., it would need to take place south of the border. Get this: These guys block off a section of the interstate and get down! Road rage must be a lot different in the city of Stockholm than it is in the States. I don’t know how things work in your town Read More

Big Three Battle on the Street

August 18th, 2016

Here’s a battle between Chevrolet, Dodge, and Ford (respectfully in alphabetical order), that takes place on the streets of an abandoned Mexican town. All three cars have manual transmissions and all three are bone stock. The racing is of the roll variety and the GoPro equipment is plentiful. That makes for some great looks at these amazing cars. The bright yellow coupe is the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. This is the Chevy flagship and it comes with a 6.2-liter supercharged and direct fuel injected V8 engine (dry sump oiling system) mated to a 7-speed Active Rev Matching manual transmission. The Read More

Heirloom Nova Posts Consistent 8-Second Passes

August 17th, 2016

You have to love hand-me-downs like this pretty 1970 Chevrolet Nova. This work in progress has been owned by members of the same family for more than two decades. In that time, it has gone from being a weekend street warrior (with a bench seat and a column shifter) to the turbocharged work of art that you see in this video. When this racer’s brother owned the Nova, it ran in the 12s. After it underwent a serious upgrade to a big block engine, it dropped down into the 10s. That was followed up by a small block with nitrous. Read More

East Coast Street Racing – Twelve Cars Race for $1200

August 16th, 2016

That’s right baby! This is an East Coast (of Mexico – of course) style, single elimination tournament with twelve drivers contributing $100 each – and the final round winner is driving away with all the cash. While $1200 may not seem like a bunch of money to you; there are some people (myself included) that consider that a pretty good night’s fun (it ain’t work). One of the best things about having a cash-pool is that the competitors have to exit their vehicles and come together for a brief period. This usually results in a lot of trash talking and Read More

1000HP Hellcat Tears Up the Streets

August 16th, 2016

This Dodge Charger Hellcat is currently on a bit of a high horse – High Horse Performance, that is. The team at HHP helped this driver squeeze 1,000hp (950whp) from his 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI by adding a Diablosport tuner, a 2.85 crank pulley, a Green serpentine belt, a cat delete package, a set of Nitto NT 555R drag radials, and a nitrous kit. In factory trim the Hellcat Charger is touted as the baddest production sedan ever made. The 6.2-liter HEMI V8 makes 707hp and 650 lb-ft. of torque. Tonight, he is out trolling the streets for some action and he Read More

2000HP 1955 Chevy – Big Tire No Prep Racer

August 12th, 2016

This bad looking 1955 Chevrolet must truly strike fear into opposing cars because they just seem to lay down and die on the line. It is a pretty impressive looking hot rod but – darn it, guys – you gotta man up and give it all you got. Honestly, it don’t believe that it is fear. More than likely, it’s the stress and strain of sudden, maximum acceleration combined with the rigors of tremendous trap speeds followed by panic stops. This little red ’55 Chevrolet is packing a 2,000hp punch from a 632 cubic-inch big block and a 3-shot nitrous Read More

Honda Civic Traps 189 MPH at Pikes Peak

August 11th, 2016

The competitors are breaking the 200 mph barrier (on a regular basis) during this week’s 2016 Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack but who expects to see a Honda Civic that can turn 189 mph trap speeds?  The truth is that this is no ordinary Civic – but it is ninety-nine-percent Honda. Start with a run-of-the-mill, 2,300-pound hatchback Honda Civic. Now, snatch that four-cylinder mill out of there and replace it with a ultra smooth 3.5-liter V6 engine from a front wheel drive Honda Odyssey van. Before cramming it back under the hood, install a set of high-performance cylinder heads and camshafts Read More
