Midwest Drags – Gen 4 Camaro with Turbo 6.0-liter LSX

October 26th, 2022

The crew from Engine Builder headed out to the Summit Midwest Drags in Iowa City, Iowa. They didn’t find a lot of sunshine. However, they did run into Brent Sinclair and his boss of a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Under the hood, they found their engine of the week.

Prepared by TKM Performance (Denton, North Carolina) the big mill is a 6.0-liter LSX with a 4.160-inch bore and a stock stroke. The crankshaft is a Callie’s Magnum, connecting rods are Callie’s Ultra Enforcers and it has custom Wiseco pistons. The cylinder heads are from Trick Flow. They have titanium intake valves and Inconel exhaust valves. The intake manifold is a Holley Hi-Ram with a custom billet lid and a 105-millimeter throttle body. Modifications to the fuel injection system are significant. The turbocharger is a Garrett GTR 102-millimeter. On 29 psi of boost, the Camaro made 1600whp on a Mustang dyno.

This car is capable of running in the high-six to low-seven second range for the quarter-mile.

Question is: How much power can Brent get to the pavement in these wet conditions? Therein lies the rub.
