Bandit Trans Am Turned Big Tire Dragster – Review and Street Pulls

February 11th, 2021

Featured in this video is a modified 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. This model was made famous in the film “Smokey and the Bandit”. Superstar actor Burt Reynolds (The Bandit) brought the Trans Am Blackbird to national recognition as the blocker car for his adventurous schemes. The version of the Bandit in this video would surely put that signature smile on the face of Burt (may he rest in peace). Enjoy this ridiculously clean dragster variation to one of Hollywood’s most famous movie cars.

The first thing that grabs your attention are the handmade front splitter and rear spoiler. Car owner Jorge handcrafted these one-of-a-kind components that put me in mind of the original Trans Am series of racing. After that, the fat Mickey Thompson rear tires can’t be ignored. Significant suspension enhancements yield the athletic stance and low center of gravity and there is no overlooking those exhaust exit ports in the rear fenders.

Under the hood is an all-aluminum built 383 Stroker (Chevy) motor mated to a TH350 transmission. Several kits of nitrous contribute to the abundance of horsepower produced by this black beauty.

The interior – complete with Auto Meter gauges – is just as pristine as the rest of the car. Climb in and buckle up for a test drive. No bridge jumps – this time.
