McLaren P1 GTR – $3-Million Street Legal Track Destroyer

December 31st, 2020

On a different note, this production takes us away on a ride along in a rare McLaren P1 GTR. Oh, there are a few around out there but this particular car has been modified (using a kit from Lanzante) to make it street legal. In this case, be careful not to mistake “street legal” with “everyday driver”. This is a full-blown race car – devoid of creature comforts – and it can be brutal on the senses. Check it out.

The McLaren P1 GTR is the race variant of the McLaren P1 hypercar. Only fifty-eight of them were produced and they were designed strictly for track use. One of the first things that I noticed about this beast is that it looks a lot like a car from the future. The next thing is that it has been “Americanized” to a left-hand drive configuration. All unnecessary glass and mirrors have been deleted and required glass has been replaced with a shatter proof polycarbonate material. The glass roof and engine cover are gone, and carbon fiber is everywhere. Overall, the GTR weighs about 100-pounds less than the standard P1. The GTR variant is not only lighter than the standard P1 model, it also has ten percent more downforce, less ground clearance and it is more aerodynamic.

Of course, the McLaren P1 GTR is also more powerful than the P1. Powered by a twin turbocharged 3.8-liter and an electric motor, the McLaren P1 GTR is capable of producing nearly 1,000hp (that’s approximately 80hp more than the standard P1). It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5-seconds.

Climb in this $3-million monster and hold on tight. This is going to be a bumpy ride.
