Highway Rolls – Corvette ZR1 vs. Mustang GT500 vs. Supra

June 22nd, 2017

That is correct – you can run ‘em 3-wide down south of the border.

This clip brings us three amazing rides in serious roll racing action. Now, for my taste, I had rather get it on from a dead stop (dig racing). Still, I have to admit that easing up beside another fast car and just letting it all hang-out on the highway (in Mexico) is pretty intense.

Speaking of intense: The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is the flagship of GM. It rolls off the assembly line as a prolific street beast that seems destined for roll racing. With a 6.2-liter supercharged engine, the ZR1 boasts a horsepower rating of 638hp. A unique feature of the ZR1 is its rear mounted transmission. This gives the top tier Vette better weight distribution which improves handling.

The Mustang GT500 is the baddest of the blue-oval pony-cars. It features a 662hp, 5.8-liter, supercharged engine that also makes 630 lb.-ft. of torque. This thing pulls like a freight train!

Last – but certainly least – is the Toyota Supra. This car is the holy-grail for the Toyota faithful. It is more dependent on turbocharger displacement than engine size. That can leave it wanting a bit more in a drag race but perfectly suited for roll racing.

Obviously, none of these rides are without extensive modifications.

The Vette is estimated at 875hp thanks to some cylinder head work, a camshaft upgrade, and some expert porting and polishing.

The Mustang has been treated to a VMP supercharger/tuner setup and it is running E85 fuel. It is capable of making 800hp in its current state.

The Supra has had a major turbocharger enhancement which the bulletproof inline 6-cylinder engine is more than equipped to handle. Horsepower is estimated at 1,000hp.
