1200HP Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4

Here is another one of those cars that I wish I had paid a little more attention to when they were plentiful. Now these things are as hard to find as chicken’s teeth and when you happen across one; it is super nice.

That’s certainly the case with this owner-built machine. It looks like a million bucks and sounds even better.

This 1997 model all-wheel drive sports coupe has been rebuilt from the ground up and modified with a single Precision (7675) turbocharger. Since there aren’t a ton of companies offering aftermarket performance parts for this particular car (let alone single turbo kits), the owner had to custom fabricate most of what is under the hood. The engine is a 3.3-liter V6 with forged pistons and connecting rods. It is running a Haltech Elite 2500 controller for which the owner had to fashion a custom wiring harness. He also tunes the car himself.

This is really quite an accomplishment when you consider that the car has run 185 mph in the WannaGoFast (standing) Half-Mile. It is capable of producing 1,200hp at the crankshaft and has dyno certified 1.050whp and 865 lb.-ft. of torque. Oh, by the way, it still has cold air conditioning, power steering, and leather interior! Some guys have all the luck. Others make their own luck. Great job Brian.
