The first 1/4 mile results for the new Tesla P90D with Ludicrous are in with a new owner taking their P90D to Rock Falls Raceway in Wisconsin.  The owner did a 90% charge with the P90D at a nearby supercharger before heading to the track and ended up with a best time of 11.38 @ 115.89 MPH which is quite a bit away from the 10.9 second 1/4 mile time that Tesla states on their P90D specification page.

When comparing the P90D timeslips to the P85D slips we have, the P90D clearly has some more low end grunt with a slightly better 60′ time as well as a higher 1/8 MPH trap speed which accounts for the 1/4 mile drop in ET of about 3/10’s from the P85D which we tested at 11.6 @ 115.9 MPH.  However on the top end the P90D appears to drop it’s power just like the P85D.

Tesla also states a 20% improvement in the time it takes to get to 155MPH over the P85D, unless there is a big rush of power after the 1/4 mile, we just don’t see this happening with the current state/setup of the P90D Ludicrous.

While the P90D Ludicrous 1/4 mile was done at a different track than our P85D Insane tests were done, our initial VBOX tests of a P90D Ludicrous obtained very similar times of 11.4 @ 117.9 MPH compared to 11.7 @ 116.2 MPH for the P85D VBOX tests.  These VBOX tests were done with the same equipment and testing area.

Since we doubt there is much more to gain in the Tesla’s launch with it already reaching 60 MPH in just 2.8 seconds (video), the high end power and 1/4 mile trap speed will need to be in the 122-123 MPH range to have a chance of hitting 10’s in the 1/4 mile.  Hopefully all we need is a software update for this to happen.
