We have some results from the first heads up all out drag race at Sacramento Raceway between an all new Tesla P90D Ludicrous vs a Tesla P85D Insane.  The Tesla P90D a best time of 11.4 @ 116.8 MPH with the P85D running a best of 11.7 @ 114.2 MPH.

This is the 2nd real world 1/4 mile result we’ve seen from the P90D Ludicrous with another car running 11.3 @ 115.9 MPH last month.    Tesla states the car should run a 10.9 in the 1/4 mile and a recent motor trend article is confirming those numbers along with a 0-60 time of just 2.6 seconds, maybe there is a software update coming to increase the performance of some of the early P90Ds to match the numbers that Tesla specifies.

Should also be interesting to see how the older P85D cars do after being upgraded from Insane mode to Ludicrous mode.  Tesla is stating a .2 second decrease in the 0-60 MPH time and 1/4 mile time which basically puts it where the current real world P90D Ludicrous cars are and in the end it appears that the P85D Ludicrous will not perform as well as the P90D Ludicrous so maybe the gains will be less.  At a cost of $5,000 to $7,500 (final pricing is yet to be confirmed) to upgrade the P85D from Insane to Ludicrous many current owners are not sure it’s worth the money.
