Stock Engine Viper World Record Half-Mile

April 14th, 2017

Those speed demons at Calvo Motorsports have done it again! These guys continue to push the limitations of top speed as they pertain to factory stock engines.

If you are going to build a legacy of speed with stock hardware, what better place to start than the premier (arguably) high-performance coupe produced in the U.S. The Viper comes off the assembly line with a massive 8.0-liter V10 engine that is capable of producing more than 600hp.

I am not absolutely sure about the rules for this particular class but I did hear the owner/driver talking about bolt-ons and a turbocharger. Sounds like “stock” is a relative term (down in Puerto Rico) but it makes for some great fun and record-breaking passes. Not to mention that the people are gracious and the scenery is beautiful.

There were some issues getting the boost pressure dialed in but the driver’s reaction to posting a new world record top speed (194.13 mph) is priceless. I love to see someone who is dedicated to his craft and passionate about achieving results.

This is one great looking and sounding car. There is also an orange Viper running for the Calvo Motorsports team. It suffers a catastrophic transmission malfunction after the first pass but I dig the General Lee motif. Yee-haw!
