Sick Week – Day Zero Test and Tune

January 29th, 2024

It’s that time of year again. Sick Week 2024 is upon us and it’s happening in the Sunshine State. The best No Prep cars (trucks, etc.) are gathered in Florida to begin a series of drag racing events tied together by a 1,000-mile cruise. Sick Week is a grueling challenge. It’s hard on the machinery and brutal in the knuckles, but lifelong friendships will be formed. Let’s go to the track for some last minute test runs.

Right out of the gate, there’s an ‘80s Pontiac Le Mans Wagon doing burnouts. This grocery getter has a massive 540 cubic-inch big block engine with a giant ProCharger. When this thing spools up, it makes a sound that only dogs can hear – and it has open headers poking through the front fenders. Once he kills the burnout, he lays down a cool 7.65-second pass @ 175 mph.

After a Crown Vic with some stump jumper tires makes a pass, there’s a Honda S2000 with an LS swap and a big turbo. This ugly duckling runs an 8-second pass @ 130 mph.

Next up, we take a look at a Fox Body Mustang with a turbo Coyote motor. The knowledgeable 16-year old pilot says he’s looking to lay down some 4-second eighth-mile passes in the days that lay ahead.

I hear that Jeff Lutz is on the card for Sick Week 2024. He has to be the odds-on favorite for fastest overall. The Street Racing Channel and The Old Man’s Garage are also on-hand.
