Greetings drag racing fans and fellow speed freaks from every walk of life! It’s time! Time for the 2018 Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week. This year, the most grueling drag race event in the world has been moved to the sunny south. Problem is that somebody forgot to tell Florence – Hurricane Florence that is.

This year, the 1,000-mile event begins at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia with more than 400 street cars; ready to prove they have what it takes to make the lengthy trip and race on four drag strips in five days. After a full day of racing in Georgia, the trip sets out to Darlington, South Carolina and the Darlington Dragway. Next, it’s on to the zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina, and Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee before heading back to Atlanta for the final day of racing at Atlanta Dragway. The event is over 1,000-miles roundtrip. Race cars may be towed to the initial event but must be driven the remainder of the way. Racers must make a minimum of one pass per day to stay in the contest.

As with most drag racing events, some of the competitors are just trying to survive while others are in it to win it. With 400 of the baddest street cars in the world on hand, it will certainly be interesting. Even if Florence doesn’t get involved.

Take a look.
