Drag Racing – McLaren 570S vs. Chevy Corvette Z06

May 24th, 2018

The thing that makes this drag race interesting is that one of the cars utilizes a small (3.8-liter ) engine with dual power-adders and the second car uses a larger (6.2-liter) engine with a small power-adder. Oh, one is British and the other is American, adding to this fast-paced opera of speed.

The 570S is built around a carbon-fiber tub. It is rear-wheel drive vehicle with a mid-mounted engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The power plant is an all-aluminum 3.8-liter V8 with 4-valves per cylinder  and direct fuel injection. It has twin turbochargers and an intercooler. The engine is capable of producing 562hp and 445 lb.-ft. of torque. The car weighs 3,040-pounds, blasts from 0 to 60 mph in just 3-seconds, and has an electronically controlled top speed of 204 mph. It costs about $191K.

On the other hand, the ‘Vette is equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 (all-aluminum with 2-valves per cylinder and direct fuel injection) and a Lingenfelter supercharger with an intercooler. It is a rear-wheel drive roadster with a front-mounted engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Zero-to-sixty may be achieved in 3-seconds, it is capable of producing 650hp and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, and has an electronically controlled top speed of 185 mph. The sticker price is $80.5K.

Take a look as these two awesome cars hook up in a quarter-mile dig race. You just might get a surprise. I did!
