1969 Pontiac GTO Turbo – 7-Second Beast

December 6th, 2019

While I am certainly no authority on the subject, having owned several Pontiac GTOs over the years, I can tell you that this is no ordinary GTO. Not only does it look like a million-bucks in its royal purple paint scheme, this thing gets out of the hole and through the trap in a hurry.

Under the hood is a Pontiac mill with a giant turbocharger. Chrome and billet abound in the engine compartment and the engine is built with the best of everything. Ram Air ain’t got nothing on this setup.

The action begins with the GTO going against a modded-out Mazda. It’s a close race but the Pontiac takes the win. This pass is a 7.09-second ET @ 183.2 mph. I’m officially impressed.

The next bout pits our GTO against a slick looking Camaro from the 70s. The Goat gets the hole shot and gaps the Chevy, posting a 7.45-second ET @ 184.7 mph. The racing surface is going away.

Next up is a contest between the Purple Poncho and a Mazda RX-7 (LS swap, no doubt). This time the GTO loses with a pass of 7.19-seconds @ 180.2 mph. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all.
