1500HP Classic Camaro – 8-Second Street Car

October 1st, 2019

It ain’t about being flashy. It’s all about how fast you can get from point A to point B. Certainly, Mark Urban (Urban Racecars) has built himself a Camaro that can get from A to B in one quick hurry. What it lacks in shine, it more than makes up for in performance. Let’s catch up with Mark, fresh from Drag Week.

Under the hood of this Chevy is an LSx V8 (7.0-liter) engine running a hydraulic camshaft/lifter setup. It has a stock LS3 intake manifold, 2002 Corvette exhaust manifolds and a 5-inch air-to-air intercooler. The turbochargers are a pair if big Borg Warner units and the car has been dyno tested at 1,500hp to the rear wheels.

Even though the Camaro has posted a best elapsed time of 7.68-seconds (in the 180 mph range), Mark is a bracket racer at heart. He loves Hot Rod Drag Week and all the strategy that the long road trip and bracket racing brings.

This is just a really simple, straightforward car. It typically runs consistent high 7 to low 8-second elapsed times at 180 mph. It’s not so complicated that Mark can’t have fun with it. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Having fun?
