Legal Street Digs – Coffeyville, Kansas

August 30th, 2018

Coffeyville is one of the only places in the world smart enough to close-down a public street and let it become a moneymaker. How, you say, does such a thing transpire? Well, once a year, the good citizens of Coffeyville go in the No Prep Drag Racing business and street racers from all over the United States flood-in to spend their hard-earned dollars on motels and restaurants while trying to claim cash prizes and bragging rights on the blacktop. It’s great fun and (literally) the entire town gets involved.

In addition to the carnival atmosphere; there are some big-name cars on hand. The Shop Truck S10 is looking super-fast as is the Working Girl Camaro (made famous by JJ Da’ Boss out of Memphis). There’s certainly no shortage GM G-Bodies (Malibu) or Mustang Fox Bodies and there’s a Ford Falcon that made the earth rumble underneath our feet. An inordinate number of 70s Novas were on hand; one of which crossed the center and bashed a Mustang, putting both competitors back on the trailer but nobody was seriously injured.

There is also a marvelous looking GTO, some pre-war (WWII) sheet metal, a Vega with a wheelie problem, and a Chevy II Nova that takes Shop Truck out to the wood shed.

Check it out.
