Best of Texas vs. The Best of California – Drag Race

March 11th, 2024

Here we have a drag race between one of the fastest drag trucks in Texas and one of the quickest cars in California. Representing the Lone Star State is Beto from ONDGAS. He’s running a twin turbocharged “work truck” and he’s in it to win it. In the other lane is Alex from SheepyRace. He’s banging an Audi R8 with the SheepyRace SR1200 twin turbo package installed. This has all the earmarks of a wild affair.

The ONDGAS pickup is an all-wheel drive Silverado. Under the hood is a twin turbo 5.3-liter LS motor stretched out to 7.0-liters. The cylinders have been sleeved to offset the increase in piston diameter. For those interested gearheads, the power adders are Bullseye 8396 turbochargers. No overdrive here, this is a 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission. The chassis is basically custom with ladder bars in the rear. The body has undergone a weight reduction treatment that involves fiberglass panels and lexan glass. Inside, the instrumentation and controllers are from Holley.

On to the Audi R8. This bad girl is quite a handful with (potentially) 1,200whp on tap. Key modifications include a pair of 62-millimeter Precision turbochargers, a giant air-to-water intercooler and fuel system upgrades. The transmission has been built with billet gears throughout, a bigger clutch and beefier axles. Of course, the R8 utilizes the same all-wheel drive platform as the Lamborghini Huracan with a 5.2-liter V10 engine mounted behind the cockpit. The engine remains stock as does the suspension (except for a set of lowering springs).

Tipping the scale at 4,300-pounds the Silverado is only 200-lbs. heavier than the R8, which comes in at 4,100-pounds.

Let’s race!
