AutoCross Pickup Breaks Full-Size Stick Shift Quarter-Mile World Record

October 12th, 2021

The backdrop is Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. The featured vehicle is the “highlighter” green Chevrolet Silverado of Jon Thomas. Jon’s green truck is by design an autocross racer. On a lark, he decided to bring his pickup out to Street Car Takeover Atlanta and have a little fun. What’s more fun than winning, right? How about setting a new World Record?!

Under the hood of Jon’s lime green hauler is a turbocharged 408 cubic-inch LT9 V8 block with a set of LS3 cylinder heads. The intake is a Holley Hi Ram and the fuel injection system is a Holley Dominator. Exhaust exits via a one-off Laguna-style pipe through the bed. The manual transmission is a Texas Drivetrain Performance built Tremec T-56 Magnum 6-speed. The rear end is a stock 10-bolt with a Got Torque Super-10 differential and a set of 33-spline axles. It’s burning E85 fuel. This is a wild truck.

After a successful foray into the roll racing segment, Jon prepares to do battle in the Heavy-Duty Stick Shift Class for some dig racing. Will the autocross truck be able to withstand the rigors associated with drag racing and pull out a win? Watch the video to find out.
