Tesla Plaid vs. COPO Camaro – Drag Racing

January 30th, 2024

We are keeping it on the track tonight with some high level eighth-mile drag racing. Our focal point will be a Tesla Model S Plaid and its ongoing battle with his nemesis – a custom built COPO Chevrolet Camaro.

If you are familiar with the Chevrolet Camaro, then you know that the Central Office Production Order (COPO) version is special. In the 1960s, dealerships purchased the COPO as an incomplete build (no engine, transmission or rear end) and installed high-performance components as desired. Early model COPO Camaros are rare and highly sought after to this day. The modern COPO Camaro is designed for NHRA use. The incomplete builds are sold to qualified consumers who complete them to their desired specifications. The COPO Camaro that we will be seeing today is equipped with a small block Chevy engine (5.7-liter) with a supercharger. It’s plenty fast.

Of course, the Tesla Model S Plaid is one of the fastest production vehicles ever assembled. That’s despite the fact that it is all-electric. At full charge, the Plaid can transfer just over 1,000hp to all four wheels in an immediate fashion. That makes the Tesla extremely quick out of the hole. Let’s see how he fares against the mighty COPO Camaro.
