Tesla Model S P85D vs Dodge Challenger Hellcat

January 19th, 2015

thumbWe’ve got some video from the StreetCarDrags January 18th event at Palm Beach International Raceway of a 2015 Tesla Model S P85D going racing a 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat.   The Tesla is powered by two electric motors with a combined output of 691 horsepower while the Hellcat has a 6.2L Supercharged HEMI V8 pumping out 707HP.

The Tesla P85D set a new world record (verified by NEDRA who was onsite) for being the quickest and fastest production electric car in the world running 11.6 @ 114.6 MPH in the 1/4 mile with a very a 1.65 60′ time.  0-60 MPH came in last just 3.1 seconds.  The Tesla backed up it’s performance with additional 11.69, 11.72 and 11.76 passes.

Check out the video below, while the Hellcat can certainly do much better, this is pretty much what you can expect in the real world when you put 707HP in a front engine, rear wheel drive car with relatively skinny 275 tires on the back.

We would like to add that this was the Hellcat driver’s first time at the track and first time attempting to launch the car.   We’re also setup for a rematch in a couple weeks so check back soon for those results.
