Welcome drag racing fans – and speed freaks of every ilk – to a boisterous evening of racing on the streets of Mexico. These tenacious competitors have met up and absconded in a southernly fashion to see who has the fastest roll racer on the interstate. Vehicles (cars and trucks) from GM, Ford and Dodge are on hand, as well as vehicles representing several import automakers. Let’s drop down south of the border and see what’s the big deal. True Street 1,100HP TT GTO

July 25th, 2018

Leather reclining seats, air conditioning, carpeted floors, and full door panels; sound like a luxury sports car? How about a full roll cage, drag radials, and 1,100hp? Now, that sounds like a race car. So, what is it? Is it a street car or a race car? Turns out that Louis Crower (Yep, that Crower) has built himself a very heavy (4,000-pound) Pontiac GTO that is the best of both worlds. It all begins with a KP Racing built LS3 engine. KP integrated billet main bearing caps, half-inch main studs, and a ton of Crower internals in the bottom and Read More

1500HP Stick Shift GTO

July 12th, 2018

This is the story of Rich and his friend Bill. The two buddies are into cars – bigtime. Rich loves the Pontiac GTO and Bill had a thing for the Ford Fairlane 500. Both car enthusiasts selected a model from the sixties and transformed their respective steeds into a muscle-bound masterpiece. Rich chose a 1965 Poncho (Hurst Package) as his canvas. He built this beast around a 517 cubic-inch Pontiac engine being force fed by a 94-millimeter turbocharger. The combination is capable of producing 1,500hp and has made a best pass of 9.7-seconds @ 147 mph. The transmission is a Tremec Read More

Coffeyville Street Drags – No Prep Falcon

May 8th, 2018

Welcome drag racing fans to the Coffeyville Street Drags in Coffeyville, Kansas. Competing in the Outlaw Class, our feature car is a vintage Ford Falcon with a cool wrap. Oh, wait a minute – my finger just fell into a rust hole – this ain’t a wrap. This body is actually rusty with a patina that belies its many decades behind the blue oval. So, the Ford Falcon belongs to Paul Witty who built this bad ride in his garage. He dragged it right out of a field and breathed new life into her by installing a 521 cubic-inch big Read More

1964 GTO – Street Car Takeover

October 13th, 2017

With the memory of their deceased friend Mike as inspiration, this loyal group of friends and racing enthusiasts prepared this 1964 Pontiac GTO for the drag strip. After torqueing every last bolt and buckling Mike’s urn and ashes into the front seat, they set off for Tucson and the Street Car Takeover. Little did they know what a dramatic weekend of racing action was in store. The Goat was a one-owner car, purchased new by Mike’s dad. This band of compadres rebuilt the muscle car with a 428 Pontiac stroker kit (bored over to 467 cubic-inches). It has all the Read More

6-Second GTO Chills Ice Cream Cruise

September 23rd, 2017

With the recent advancements in power-adder technology, it is rarer than hen’s teeth to see a competitive naturally aspirated (N/A) car at the drag strip. It is even more uncommon to see one with a steel body that can run consistent (low) 6-second quarter-mile elapsed times and dominate the class. This fourth-generation GTO is currently powered by a massive 7.4-liter LSx engine that produces approximately 760hp. A Powerglide transmission helps to send those ponies to a narrowed Ford 9-inch rear differential. All the way down the line, this Goat is built on an old school model with the latest components Read More
