Roll Racing – 2JZ Mazda RX7 vs. Blown Cobra Mustang

April 28th, 2017

As much as I love, respect, and support my friends in the law enforcement community, if I am racing on the interstate and a cruiser pulls into my peripheral, I might draw up so tight that the seat cover would have to be surgically removed. My insurance guy would draw up even tighter.

Not so on this night of roll racing action, when Dick Tracy pulls alongside and openly issues a challenge over the public address system. Seriously, have a look for yourself.

After the customary meet-and-greet at the local filling station, our competitors pull onto the interstate (or whatever they call them in Mexico) and begin to jockey for position. Quicker than you can say “1-2-3-go” a patrol cruiser (in full battle-rattle) appears out of nowhere. Ain’t that the way of it? They show up like a ghost and blind you with them confounded lights.

Anyway, the good natured civil servants were kind enough to check out their emergency vehicle against the RX7 and proceed on their way without incident. Whew!

Luckily, the brief presence of the PoPo wasn’t enough to quench the roll racing spirit and the competitors charged ahead.

The highlight of the evening seems to have been a close contest between a 2JZ swapped 1994 Mazda RX7 (18 psi of boost, transmission and differential upgrades, 700hp) and a Ford Mustang Cobra (2.3-liter Whipple supercharger, cylinder head and camshaft upgrades, 700hp on E85 fuel). This is a really good race and the Mustang sounds phenomenal.
