McLaren MP4-12C Alpha Performance Tune Testing

January 23rd, 2015

McLaren-MP4-12C-AMSContinuing on with testing the McLaren MP4-12C we recently installed an ECU tune from Alpha Performance.  Alpha Performance remaps the existing MP4-12C ECU and states average gains of 100 horsepower and 105 ft-lbs of torque throughout the RPM range taking peak horsepower from the stock 616 HP to 716HP.

Tuning the MP4-12C ECU requires removing the ECU from the car which is located behind the passenger side rear wheel well which takes about 45 minutes.  After shipping the ECU to AMS it’s returned in just a few days and after reinstalling the ECU the car is ready to go with the additional power and torque.

We did multiple tests on our VBOX as well as track testing on our StreetCarDrags event at Palm Beach International Raceway.  On the dragstrip the AMS tuned McLaren set a record for being the quickest and fastest MP4-12C running a very impressive 10.15 @ 138.2 MPH on 345/30/19 Nitto Drag Radials mounted on Forgeline wheels.   This beats our previous stock record of 10.27 @ 135.5 MPH on Toyo R888 Tires.

ams-logoOther stats from the dragstrip run were:

  • 0-60 MPH: 2.7 seconds
  • 0-100 MPH: 5.5 seconds
  • 100-150 MPH: 6.6 seconds

On a dedicated 60-130 MPH test we obtained a new best of 5.79 seconds while our best stock run was 6.58 seconds.
