Apocalypse Camaro – LT5 Swapped Restomod Beast

January 22nd, 2024

A big thumbs up to Tony’s Hot Rod Shop (Wisconsin) and Kegler’s Custom Upholstery (interior work) for producing this truly extraordinary restomod 1969 Camaro. Car owner Gino intercepted this car as a build in progress.

Riding on a Chris Alston Chassisworks chassis, the Camaro had a firm foundation. Fully adjustable coilover shocks from Barry Controls equalize the weight on all four corners.

Under the hood is the focal point of the Apocalypse Camaro. It’s a supercharged LT5 6.2-liter V8 from a 2019 ZR9 Corvette. Very rare and highly sought after, the LT5 boasts such features as a dry sump lubrication system, dual fuel injectors, camshaft phasing and lightweight aluminum composition. This is the most powerful Chevrolet production engine to date with the capacity to produce 755hp and 715 lb.-ft. of torque at peak RPM. With the current exhaust, intercooler and tuning setup, this car is claiming over 900hp. The big motor is mated to a Tremec T-56 dual-clutch manual gearbox. The four-link rear suspension holds a Strange Engineering FAB9 (9-inch) rear end.

Huge Wilwood disc brakes and Wilwood hydraulics bring this apocalyptical beast to a halt safely. The wheels are from Forgeline, and they’re wrapped in Pirelli rubber.

Modifications to the interior and exterior are extensive and skillfully done.

Enjoy the test drive with Shawn (AutotopiaLA) at the wheel.
