2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette – Quarter Mile with Nitrous

March 16th, 2020

The long awaited 2020 Corvette is finally here. With a total redesign, the C8 version features a mid-engine design with an amazing new interior and dash. LG Motorsports owns this car, which is slated for some serious modification in the coming days. Presently, LG has installed a 100-shot of nitrous in the trunk of this American beauty. Their goal is to get a run in without nitrous and a run with nitrous. Let’s see how it shakes out.

The 2020 C8 ‘Vette comes from the factory with plenty of giddy-up. It comes from a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 capable of pumping out 495hp at 6,450 RPM and 470 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,150 RPM. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3-seconds and has a top speed (computer controlled) of 205 mph. Dyno footage indicates an increase of 57hp (552hp) with nitrous activated. This should be an interesting ride.

The action begins with a sort of ‘before’ pass; without nitrous. As expected, the mighty rear engine Corvette pulls a 12.1-second elapsed time at a trap speed of 118.58 mph. Chevy says the car will run a 11.2-second quarter mile at 122 mph, so this time is horrible for a first pass.

Now for the ‘after’ pass. Everyone is eager to see what the car will do with the laughing gas applied. The driver uses launch control on this pass. He positions the nitrous button in his right hand and depresses it before making the 1-2 shift. With the go-go juice applied, the transmission bucks and snorts a bit. Screws the entire pass up and the C8 winds up with another 12.1. This time at 124.36 mph. Seems like a little tuning might be in order.

We look forward to seeing this car after LG begins to work their high-performance magic.
