Ford 460 Acceleration 1971 LTD 20-70 mph(6.4 sec)

My new 460 in my 1971 LTD. C-6, 2200 stall, 2.75:1 ring and pinion, about 400 hp 530 lb. ft. Car has a huge amount of power. It short shifts(4500 rpm) and hesitates because of a heavy secondary spring(black) and still accelerates like mad. I'm going to do some carburetor tuning and find a way to shift manually while holding the camera, then post a new video. I'm pretty sure it will hit 100 in around 10 seconds properly tuned.

Ford 460 best acceleration run yet... 1971 Ford LTD 20-70 mph run(6.2 sec)
Since I cannot launch the car from a dead stop(massive wheelspin) I run it from a 20mph roll. The car had a bad ignition coil up to this point, got that fixed and I tuned the carburetor better. All previous videos are moot. 400 hp 460, 2.75:1 gear, 4200 lbs with me in it.

1971 Ford LTD- 10.5:1 Ford 460, Ported dove-c heads, 2.19/1.71 valves, 311/180 cfm@.600" lift, Holley 3310, 1" 4-hole spacer, 1985 Mustang 5.0 dual snorkel breather, Edelbrock Performer, D1ve-6015-aa thick web 2-bolt block, pistons 0.004" in the hole, Balanced Rotator, C8 Thunderbird manifolds, 2.5" duals with h-pipe and Street Sweeper chambered mufflers, Competition Cams 218/226 .514/.524 107 111 hydraulic Extreme Energy 4x4 camshaft in at 105 ICL, Comp cams full roller billet steel timing set w/ thrust bearing, Stainless full roller rockers, Crane Cams xr-3000 optical ignition, Autolite distributor re-curved, 80gph Holley pump. Vacuum 14", 24 mechanical and 10 initial for 34 total timing all in at 3000 rpm. Approx. 400 hp 530 lb. ft.- Would be a lot better with headers. Valvetrain noise due to little preload. Ford 460 trying to "WOT launch" from dead stop to 90 mph
Just me messing around... Trying to launch WOT requires "pedaling" to control wheelspin even with a spool. New carburetor!! 650 Holley DP with custom 1:1 linkage and ford kickdown by myself. This very mild 460 engine is well matched- cam, carburetor, and intake are all done making power at 5500 rpm. Still running manifolds also. Had some carburetor heat after a 1 hour drive.

Cold Start on my RARE 1978 Ford Custom 500, 460 POLICE INTERCEPTOR (Pursuit Special) Package. Notice the "CERTIFIED CALIBRATION" on my speedo cluster and notice it is in Kilometers NOT Miles Per Hour. Rare X-RCMP Pursuit Special. 1 of 4 specially built Police Interceptors. 0-54 MPH in 1st gear 54-102 MPH in 2nd gear 102- Unlimited MPH (146 MPH .est) in 3rd gear.... LOOONG TALL 3rd gear! 0-60 in 6.53 1/4 mile = 14.54 @ 102mph (with some tire spin off the line) just shifting into 3rd at the end of the 1/4 mile. With E.T Street drag radials 0-60 in 5.8 seconds 1/4 mile in 13.61 @ 102 Curb weight WITH driver 5300 Pounds! Cam is an "Interceptor" grind cam.. made to optimize torque. True Dual Exhaust thru 2 1/2 inch Exhaust with H-pipe. I removed the original Ford Police Performance mufflers and put on Dynomax Ultra Flows... didnt really notice any differance in performance. But they are a little louder than the Police Mufflers. Added headers!! filmed on my cell phone... quality :( filmed in 2010. K thanx

Project 460 Fox Mustang Part 2
Porting and polishing the cylinder heads, assembling and firing up the 460. This engine was built for Project 460 Fox Mustang when the plan was for a street/strip car. After finding a super deal on a lot of go fast(er) parts, the plans have changed. This engine will be sold and a new, more powerful motor will be built for mainly drag racing. I counted about 9 seconds to hit 60. Notice that first gear is good for about 45, and second carries through a little over 75.The car is all stock with a 351 and a 2 bbl carb, 3.23 gears, true dual Exhaust, and no tune-up since I've had it, almost a year now. About 170,000 miles.

FIRST, YES I REALIZED AFTER UPLOADING THIS THAT I DIDN'T HAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WHEN I WAS TESTING THOSE THINGS. I DON'T NORMALLY LIKE USING CAPS BUT IT SEEMS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS POINT ACROSS. Now that that has been dealt with... Proper Winnipeg winter cold starting. And yes, I do realize I was testing everything without actually turning the car on.
