The Lakeside Reunion - Dick Johnson & the Tru Blu XD Falcon
Race legend Dick Johnson is reunited with his famous 1981 XD Falcon, for a
couple of laps at their spiritual home of Lakeside Raceway. This was the
first time together at this track since the mid eighties.
It was at Lakeside that DJ and Tru Blu had a now legendary race against
Peter Brock's HDT Commodore, narrowly winning in front of a crowd of 30 000
race fans. This sealed the first of two memorable Australian Touring Car
Championships in Tru Blu.
Tru Blu was retired from the track in 1985 and lay dormant till a recent
mechanical revival. On her original battle scarred warpaint, she now wears
the famous Bathurst winning livery from 1981. Now alive once more, this
survivor from the Group C racing era is still run at select race events, so
her fans- old and new- can enjoy seeing her once again.
Thank you to DJR for letting us showcase the XD and Sierra at their ride
day at Lakeside Raceway. Also to the team at Qld Raceways for allowing us
to run mid week, at a reduced speed, when there were concerns with the
noise restrictions now at the famous track....
More videos on other famous cars coming soon, including the soon to be
completed 1992 Shell DJR RS500 Sierra, so stay tuned. Check out more of Tru
Blu and our other cars here: www.bowdensown.com.au
