1981 Chevy 540 Big Block Camaro Project (Part 1)
This is my first attempt at rebuilding a car. This is my 1981 Chevy Camaro, I got it in 2004 and drove her for two years before parking it in an outdoor storage lot while I deployed to Iraq and then moved into a new home . After sitting outside for three years I decided to strip her all the way down and build her the way I always wanted to. I'm going for a ProTouring look and got my hands on a 540 Big Block. More project update videos to follow...

1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 T-top 4 speed
This is an extremely original survivor quality car. It's factory-equipped with the Z28 performance package, T-tops, 4 speed, deluxe interior, power windows and a host of other features. It's spent its entire life in San Diego and has logged just 76k miles. Other than a stereo system swapped in decades ago, it's original down to the tires.

132626 / 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
For more information on this vehicle visit http://tinyurl.com/877m3ql This sinister numbers matching 1979 Camaro Z28 that wears its original paint and has only 29,052 summertime miles on its odometer. In the collector car world the phrase "You're only young once" is often translated to "It's only original once". And while full restorations can help better align doors, get the rattles out and make a car feel new again, it's simply never going to have the same look, feel, smell or appeal of an untouched factory assembled car. This Camaros original GM code 19 water based black paint is much nicer than we expected and displays a unique glossy finish that simply can't be duplicated with today's basecoat/clearcoat techniques. At the ends of the car, front and rear bumper covers that exactly match the wet look of the straight body panels are highlighted by original two-tone gold decals that appear fresh and exhibit none of the usual sun induced fading or cracking. I'm sure restraint played a big part in this Z28s low 907 mile per year average drive time, but judging by the pristine paint and solid body panels, I'm also certain this car resided in a completely weatherproof indoor parking spot. The result is an excellently preserved time capsule that likely hasn't seen a full day of rain or bad weather its entire life. Mechanically, the cars original LM1 V8 is in great shape and is as close to original as you're going to find in anything built during the Carter administration. At the top of the motor, a satin black air cleaner pipes cool air into the cars original Quadrajet carburetor. Below the carburetor, the engine block displays awesome looking blue paint from its intake to its oil pan and sends Exhaust through original cast iron Exhaust manifolds that still retain their factory heat shields. At the back of the motor, a correct Delco-Remy HEI distributor sends fire through gray Hi-Energy suppression cables. At the front of the motor, a new AC Delco battery and new cables join new coolant hoses and new V-belts to provide rock solid drivability. The VAST majority of components in this engine bay are original, and the amazingly clean engine compartment is cosmetically immaculate. This Camaros undercarriage is extremely original, with solid and clean floorpans bolted to a straight 32 year old chassis. The cars original four speed sends power to an original 10 bolt Posi-traction rear end with performance oriented 3.73 gears and its original maintenance tab. Up front a factory power steering system combines with factory power disc brakes to provide modern handling and stopping performance. Out back, the factory equipped solid rear axles still hangs by its original spiral shocks and leaf springs, and features correct factory drum brakes. Everything under this car looks functional and solid, and a quick double take confirms GM part numbers on the mufflers that are connected to the cars ORIGINAL Exhaust system! Power is put to the pavement through correct black 15 inch F2 Camaro rally wheels that wear satin finish trim rings, spotless "Z28" center caps and Goodyear 225/70 radials. Sitting inside this car is like taking a trip back to 1979. The oyster custom cloth seats are perfect, and they're a great step up from the standard vinyl units. Below the seats, great looking original black carpet is protected by factory supplied rubber floor mats. On the roof, a tight black headliner frames a round dome light that, along with the original door buzzer, works like brand new. Between the seats, a simple black console houses a chrome shifter that is topped with an awesome original wooden "Camaro" shift knob. In front of the shifter, a soft and warp free dash houses new for 1979 gauges above a vintage Pioneer tape deck. At the sides of the seats, familiar stainless trimmed door panels sport large armrests and cool "Camaro" emblems. The simulated rope steering wheel looks perfect atop its black tilt column, and behind the rear seats, you'll find an original trunk that is rust free and in good shape. This all original, numbers matching Camaro Z28 will provide you and your family with years of fond memories and summertime enjoyment!

1979 Camaro Z28 Red

132635 / 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
For more information on this vehicle visit http://tinyurl.com/bmkj7a5 This sizzling black and orange 1979 Camaro is a documented, numbers matching Z28 that is fresh out of a top-notch restoration which combines the best virtues of originality with straight body and a fresh interior. Built in Van Nuys, California and delivered to William H. Stahl Chevrolet in Southampton, Pennsylvania this 1979 Z28 looks flat out sinister in its slick coat of correct GM code 19 black paint. During its 32 years of careful and limited road time, this F2 has never been wrecked, significantly damaged in any way or torn apart for itemized repairs. Recently, the car was fully restored to better than new condition and presents exceptionally straight panel alignment which lends the fresh gloss black basecoat/clearcoat a straight and smooth sheen from panel to panel. Pop the hood on this cool '79 F-body and you'll find the cars original LM1 350 cubic inch small block V8! Mechanically, this 350 is a great sounding motor that has been immaculately maintained throughout its entire existence. Visually, it's a clean piece in a highly correct engine compartment that presents extremely well. Just below the hood, a satin black air cleaner pipes cool air into a correct Quadrajet carburetor that's equipped with a correct yellow spring. Below that carburetor, the engine block displays GM's traditional corporate blue paint from its intake to its oil pan and sends Exhaust through original cast iron Exhaust manifolds that still retain their factory heat shields. At the back of the motor, a correct Delco-Remy HEI distributor sends fire through gray suppression plug wires, and at the front of the motor, a new battery and fresh cables join correct hoses, correct clamps and fresh V-belts to provide rock solid drivability. Underneath this Camaro, straight and solid floorpans are bolted to a clean 32 year old chassis over an original 3-speed turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission and a correct option GU6 10 bolt Posi-traction rear axle with performance biased 3.42 gears. If you're a Chevrolet fan, then you know any time an F option code is listed on the build sheet, it means some serious suspension upgrades. According to this Camaros build sheet, it is equipped with the Z28 specific F41 special suspension which for 1979, added higher rate springs, stiffer valved shocks, and a thick rear sway bar. That aggressive handling package is further augmented by correct J50 power front disc and power rear drum brakes and factory equipped power steering. At the center of the car, a fresh mandrel bent dual Exhaust system makes good use of an H-pipe and factory replacement mufflers; and at the back of the car a new stainless fuel tank sends fuel through new stainless fuel lines. Torque flows to the pavement through beautifully restored 15 inch GM turbine wheels that wear modern 225/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/As at all four corners. This Camaro's well maintained GM code 74R Carmine Red interior looks good and feels great. The custom cloth seats benefit from firm padding and solid frames that are in excellent shape, and great looking reproduction carpet is protected by correct front and rear factory optioned floor mats. On the roof, a tight headliner frames a round dome light that, along with all of the other factory optioned accessory lights, works like brand new. Between the seats, a red full length console houses a correct factory shifter in front of chrome switches for the cars optional power windows. In front of the shifter, a soft and warp free dash houses new for 1979 gauges above controls for the cars HVAC system and a date correct radio. At the sides of the seats, stainless trimmed door panels feature cool "Z28" emblems along with stainless trim, chrome door handles and like-new door grabs. The simulated rope steering wheel looks perfect atop its red tilt column, and behind the rear seats, you'll find a restored trunk that contains a correct 14 inch Stowaway spare tire. With an original numbers matching drivetrain and a killer color combination, this '79 Z28 is the kind of car that you can drive and show off for years while watching its value grow.
