I thought you'd like a look at this beautiful 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. The black paint on this car is nearly flawless...it truly has a mirror-like finish. Under the hood, you'll find the big 6.6 Liter, 403 Cubic Inch V8. The engine has been painted in the correct factory color and really looks immaculate. Assembled at GM's Norwood Ohio manufacturing facility in December of 1977, this pristine Special Edition Trans Am was delivered to Hansord Pontiac Company in Minneapolis Minnesota and purchased on January 10th 1978 by the same dedicated owner that would keep it for close to 33 years. Today, the car presents as practically brand new with a spectacular coat of original GM code 19 Starlight Black paint that covers 100% original body panels which are as solid and straight as the day they left the showroom floor. Under the hood you'll find this Trans Ams all original 6.6 liter W72 V8 which was the largest muscle car engine you could buy in 1978. Thanks to government mandated emissions standards, performance had almost been legislated out of existence, and that left the Trans Am suffering a bit of an identity crisis. By utilizing smaller "6X" heads from a 350 and a revised camshaft, the W72 created higher compression and successfully reversed almost a decade of declining horsepower numbers. At the top of the motor, an original Rochester 4 barrel carburetor sits under the cars awesome shaker scoop. Below that carburetor, original GM corporate blue paint coats the entire block and original Exhaust manifolds send Exhaust into a high performance factory Exhaust system. All the hard parts around the motor, from the belt driven accessories to the brake Booster and air conditioning hanging on the fire wall are factory original; and as expected tags, markings and stamps are just where they should be from the date coded core support to the gold painted cowl tag. At the bottom of this Trans Am, a solid and clean all original undercarriage tells the story of years of excellent maintenance and low miles. Behind the motor, an original turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission sends power to the cars original 10 bolt rear end which still retains its original metal maintenance tag. The original Trans Am suspension, which includes power steering, thicker sway bars, better shocks and stiffer springs combines with power front disc brakes and rear drums to provide quick stops and great handling. A life-long west coast car, this was one of only 24 RA IV cars built at the Van Nuys assembly plant. Gaps are exemplary, panel fit is very good, and this might be the most well assembled early F-body I've ever seen. The Polar White paint matches the factory finish exactly, and the decals are reproductions. Out back, the ducktail spoiler fits beautifully and carries the correct TRANS AM insignia. The GTO jams it and then one of the passengers thought they were being tailed by an unmarked B4C (special service police) Camaro holding a radar gun (video camera, lol) notice the nervous and unsure look on his face as we roll beside, then his complete and total relief once he recognized a couple old pals in just a regular Camaro, lol.
