Big performance in a small package: the Audi RS 3 Sportback
• Five-cylinder turbo delivering 250 kW (340 hp) and 450 Nm (331.90 lb ft) of torque
• Zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.6 seconds, superior pulling power
• Seven-speed S tronic, quattro drive and 19-inch wheels
Blazing performance, compact size. Audi has added a new model to its dynamic RS series: the RS 3 Sportback. In the great tradition of the brand, its engine boasts five cylinders and turbocharging technology. From a displacement of 2.5 liters come 250 kW (340 hp) of power and 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) of torque, with an average fuel consumption of just 9.1 liters of fuel per 100 km (25.85 US mpg). Power is transmitted to the road via a seven-speed S tronic and quattro permanent all-wheel drive. 19-inch wheels and fenders made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) underscore the Audi RS 3 Sportback's position of distinction.
The RS 3 Sportback comes with an array of standard equipment including the Sport button, rear parking system, climate control, chorus radio system, and xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights. Audi offers customers a range of optional features: front bucket seats, roof rails in matt aluminum look, and styling packages in black or matt aluminum. Five exterior colors are available, plus an unlimited selection of custom paint finishes.
The new top-of-the-line model in the A3 series is already the fourth Audi model to be built at Audi Hungaria in Győr, where it is rolling off the assembly line alongside the TT Coupé, the TT Roadster and the A3 Cabriolet.
Deliveries of the RS 3 Sportback will begin in early 2011. The base price in Germany will be 49,900 euros.

► 2013 Audi RS4 Avant [450 hp]
The Audi RS 4 Avant uses the same high-revving, normally aspirated V8
engine that powers the RS 5 Coupe. The 4,163 cc powerplant produces 331 kW
(450 hp) at 8,250 rpm for a specific output of 108.1 hp per liter. Its
maximum torque of 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) is available from 4,000 to 6,000
rpm. The responsive V8 with its red-painted cylinder head covers
accelerates the RS 4 Avant from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 4.7 seconds
on its way to a governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph). This can be
increased to 280 km/h (173.98 mph) upon request.
Hand-built at Audi's plant in Györ, Hungary, the 4.2 FSI engine combines
its impressive power with exemplary efficiency, consuming on average less
than 11 liters of fuel per 100 km (21.38 U.S. mpg).
With its high efficiency and long top gear, the standard seven-speed S
tronic also contributes to the vehicle's good fuel economy. Drivers can let
the lightning-fast dual-clutch transmission shift automatically or change
gears manually using the selector lever or the paddles on the steering
wheel. For explosive starts, drivers can also activate Launch Control,
which manages the engagement of the clutch at an optimum starting speed and
minimum wheel slip.

Fifth Gear: Audi RS3 vs. BMW 1-Series M
Fifth Gear UK and its famous host Tiff Needell compares the Audi RS3 versus
the all-new BMW 1 Series M Coupe. The BMW 1M Coupe and Audi RS3 have two
things in common... Power. Each offers an identical 335bhp and 450Nm of
However, they are two very different beasts. The Audi's 2.5-litre five
cylinder turbo drives all four wheels
via a seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The BMW, on the other
hand, has a 3.0-litre straight six twin-turbo and it sends all its power to the rear
wheels via a good ol' fashioned six-speed manual.
While the 1M is rumored to redline at around 7,000 rpm, the RS3 is able to
rev up to 6,800 rpm.
The RS3 sprints to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is
electronically limited to 250km/h (155mph). The compact car weighs in at
only 1,575 kilograms (3,472 pounds). On the other hand, the 1M is rumored
to run to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds and weigh in at 1611 kg (3,552 pounds).
So, who takes the win home?
