In our recent pony car comparison test, the retro-heavy — and just plain
heavy — 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS walked away with top
honors in its debut. The big V8-powered coupe needed a new challenge. It
was time to refocus the lens. Shoot from a different angle, so to speak.
So we squared the brooding visage of our SS-badged protagonist up against
the cruelest bunch of savages we could find, the range-topping 2009 Dodge
Challenger SRT8 and 2010 Ford Shelby GT500.
Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 vs. Shelby GT350
Video of our muscle car showdown between the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392
and the 2012 Shelby GT350. Only 1492 Challengers like this one will be
built, and Shelby has a cap of 2200, with only 500. Read the Dodge

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 392 Burnout
After a bunch of hot laps around the track, those burnouts are the only
thing these tires were good for. This was a SRT8 new product launch at
Willow Springs. From 1:47 until 3:43 is Samuel Hubinette.
Ford Shelby GT500 vs Dodge Challenger SRT-8
Motor Trend comparo between Ford Mustang GT500 and Dodge Challenger
SRT-8. This is for those of you complaining that the Camaro SS should have been
stacked up againt these two. When (or if) the Z28 comes out then we'll see
who the true muscle car king is.
Review: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8
Challenger SRT8 is all about the in-your-face attitude that's a Dodge
hallmark: big car, big presence, big power. Style rules, yet asks few
compromises. Some will opine about the timing of the Dodge musclecar's
return, while others will note Chicken Little was last seen impaled in a
Viper grille somewhere.

SpeedFactory Challenger in a Supercharged Dodge Challenger SRT8 Grudge Match Drag Race
Mopars at the Strip is an annual MOPAR car show and Drag Race event held at
Las Vegas Motor Speedway every year. In 2009 SpeedFactory attended and
displayed our 600HP supercharged SpeedFactory Challenger - the first modern
Challenger to be supercharged. Next door to us was a supercharged
Challenger built by CDC/Group 2. The inevitable occurred - and Rob Wolf,
editor of Mopar Collector's Guide, did a "Pinks" style start for the grudge
match on the 1/4 mile drag strip. SpeedFactory driver Eddie Rosa emerged
victorious with a 1/4 time of 12.374 seconds at 112.66 mph, beating the
other car by 4/10 of a second.
The SpeedFactory Challenger has the Stage 3 Supercharger package, featuring a Vortech Supercharger at 5.5 lbs Boost, Hotchkis handling package, Magnaflow
catback Exhaust, and SpeedFactory
Signature package. Installed options include Richmond 3.55 gears and Boze
Tach style forged wheels. Everything else on the car is stock 2008 Dodge
Challenger SRT8. As shown in the video, the Challenger was on street tires.
On drags, the SpeedFactory Challenger runs in the 11s.
Thanks to our partners at Vortech Superchargers, Magnaflow Performance Exhaust, Richmond Gear and Boze Forged Wheels.

Challenger New vs. Old: Vanishing Point Revisited
"Our sole Challenger has just broken the ring of evil the deep blue meanies
have so righteously wrought — get through 'em baby, get through 'em." —
Super Soul, Vanishing Point 1971
It happens deep in the Nevada desert, just past Austin. On a long, straight
section of road with nothing to lose, our friends in the white 1970 Dodge
Challenger R/T finally put the hammer down. At once, the rawness and purity
of Kowalski's ride pulverizes the well-insulated interior of our 2008 Dodge
Challenger SRT8, shredding the peace inside the modern car's cockpit with
the same brute force Kowalski used to pierce a hole in the cool desert air
38 years ago. Even with my right foot buried, I see nothing but taillights
until they disappear into the desert.
In these few brief seconds, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is clearly
defined by its soft edges and quiet Exhaust. Manufacturers don't let us feel cars
raw and unfiltered anymore. Hammering down a desert road with a thin-rimmed
steering wheel and pistol-grip shifter — that's raw. Four hundred and
forty cubic inches and a four-speed — that's raw. Powerslides unhampered
by electronic intervention — that's raw.
In 1970, when Kowalski drove this very road — U.S. Highway 50 through
Nevada — he felt it. And it was raw.
