HF Tire Changer
This is longer than I wanted it to be. They say the devil's in the details, so for someone who's never used a manual tire changer, this may be helpful. The first few seconds show quick snapshots of the process so you can see if it's has the info you're looking for. For a safer way to get the bead to seal, check out joshuaburks' vid here.... http://youtu.be/3MLpKAwnRGI For dimension on the changer and the tool holder, here's another vid..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKb7_Ujua5Y Like us on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/bluehandsvideo Check out our products! http://www.bluehandsinc.com Behind-the-scenes look at what we do! http://www.bluehandsvideo.com

Hankook Tire: The Future of Tyre Design
The high performance tyre of the future will be very different to the tyres we drive on today, if the results of a recent design competition are a guide. A Hankook Tire competition in the US has challenged some of the country's brightest industrial design students to imagine the role of tyres in automotive design from new angles. The winning entry by University of Cincinnati student Ben Zavala took the brief somewhat literally, with his Tiltread car tyre rolling into corners at an angle like a motorcycle tyre. Zavala's breakthrough idea was to split the tyre into three parallel ring sections, each mounted on a corresponding split section of wheel. As the wheel turns and leans, the three tyre sections are individually raised or lowered, allowing them all to maintain traction with the road surface. Tiltread's wheels are hubless and contain an electric drive motor which varies power to each tyre section, allowing the sections to spin at different rates during cornering. University of Cincinnati associate professor Ralph Zammit said the competition demonstrated just how great an impact improvement in tyre design could have upon the overall efficiency, ecology and economy of road transportation. "Hankook proposed a very challenging assignment that provided the students with real-world insights as to how tyres are currently designed, manufactured and the performance issues they must address," said associate professor Zammit. "Students were especially encouraged to consider sustainability needs such as reducing and reusing raw materials." Second place in the competition was taken by Mark Hearn who imagined an off-road tyre called Motiv, which features numerous height-variable, non-pneumatic tread blocks that can adapt to extremely rough terrain without risk of blow-out. Third-placed Miranda Steinhauser's proposal for an eco-friendly tyre also impressed the competition judges. The Tessela tyre's easily removable tread components allow consumers to replace worn-out tread when required, rather than the whole tyre carcass, reducing tyre waste and landfill. Models of the first, second and third placed tyres were displayed on the Hankook stand at the 2012 SEMA automotive show in Las Vegas.

How to stretch a tire... and how you don't.
First time we had to use fire to make a tire stretch out. Stretching 195/45R15s on 9Jx15 BBS RMs. Didn't work at first, but we got there! As more and more people cry about handling and whatever when it comes to stretched tires: These wheels will be going on a stanced out 1986 Scirocco 16V weekend cruiser. It's meant to look good in the first place, handling just comes second. Stretching tires that much will make the handling in fast corners worse...normal driving you won't notice any difference though. On my MKIII GTI, I run 195/40s on 9" wide rims for daily use and meetings, while I run 215/35s on 9" wide rims for track use (see my onboard videos on the Nürbrugring). 215s will just stretch slightly on 9", stiffening the sidewall up only a little, giving you a more direct steering, while still allowing fast cornering. In combination with harder rubber bushings, more stiff suspension setup and unbiall top mounts, etc.etc. this results in an almost GoKart like, very direct handling...sure not the fastest setup, but fast and fun enough for me.

Tire Rack - Testing Value-Priced Max Performance Summer Tires
http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=HP5&url=/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp&ttid=1 49 When looking for a value, one doesn't often find maximum performance. And when you want the absolute maximum in performance, it's rare to find a real value. There's a group of value-priced tires delivering handling that lands them solidly in our Max Performance Summer category. But how well do they combine a blend of excellent traction and reasonable pricing?
