217mph Bentley Speed 8 Le Mans winner driven - autocar.co.uk

Autocar gets a chance to drive the priceless Bentley Speed 8 Le Mans racer, which dominated the Le Mans 24hr race in 2003. SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar The stunning Bentley Speed 8 dominated the 24hrs of Le Mans in 2003, finishing in first and second place, seven laps ahead of its competitors. So, when Autocar was invited to drive it at the Anglesey circuit, Steve Sutcliffe was hardly going to say no. With a turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 it has 615bhp, weighs just 900kg and is geared to hit 97mph in first gear. Even with used racing slicks and a polite warning from Bentley to be careful, it's breathtakingly fast. How Thrust 2 became the world's fastest car, achieving 633mph in 1983
October 2013 marks 30 years since irrepressible British businessman Richard Noble took back the world land speed record "for Britain", driving his jet-powered Thrust 2 on Nevada's Black Rock Desert at 633mph. SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar Since then, he has masterminded Andy Green's supersonic record with Thrust SSC and now he and Green want to beat 1000mph in a new jet and rocket-powered car called Bloodhound in South Africa in 2015. Here, he talks about his achievements and explains how and why he's still going for new land speed records to this day. Ariel Atom V8 vs 600bhp rallycross Citroen DS3 vs BMW HP4 superbike drag race - autocar.co.uk
Which is faster? An Ariel Atom V8 track day toy, BMW HP4 superbike or a rallycross Citroen DS3 with 600bhp? SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar Here we have three completely different ways of going extremely quickly in a straight line. Time for a drag race then. So what are the contenders? There's the one-wheel drive BMW HP4 superbike, which arguably requires the most skill to extract speed from but has a ludicrous 757bhp/tonne power-to-weight ratio. Then there's the two-wheel drive Ariel Atom V8 with 748bhp/tonne and the Citroen DS3 Rallycross car with only 577bhp/tonne but all-important four-wheel drive. Oh, and did we mention it's wet? Land Rover Bowler EXR S v Caterham Seven Supersport race - autocar.co.uk
Can a 1,750kg Land Rover Bowler EXR S Dakar racer keep up with a 520kg Caterham Seven Supersport track day toy? Steve Sutcliffe finds out. SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar This is a clash of the opposites. The Bowler EXR S is based on the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, but very little of the original car remains. Designed for Dakar-type off-road racing events, the 1,750kg Bowler has 550bhp, a sequential gearbox and trick suspension. But can it really keep up with a car weighing 520kg on a smooth track? The Caterham Seven Supersport has just 140bhp, but we all know it can embarrass some exotics. How about the £155,000 Bowler? Caterham 620R slays Volkswagen Golf GTI - Caterham's fastest ever road car tested
The Caterham 620R is one of the world's most extreme lightweight sports cars ever built. Steve Sutcliffe puts it to the test. SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar The Caterham 620R packs wide-track front suspension, a supercharged 2.0-litre Ford Duratec motor producing 311bhp and 219lb ft driving the back wheels through a straight-cut, sequential six-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential. It is a few ancillaries away from being a race car, and not much this side of a hypercar such as the Bugatti Veyron could keep pace with it. It is extreme in a way only drivers of a BAC Mono or Ariel Atom could understand. The fastest Caterham road car ever is also one of the most intoxicating. You see, big car companies can have a sense of humour! Take a Formula Ford racer, add a tuned 1 litre 3cyl motor with over 200hp and you have a car which ace racer Nick Tandy got around the Ring in 7min 22sec. That's special, but even more special when it's on the public highway.

Mosler MT900 and Consulier GTP! Supercars Ahead of Their Time - The Downshift Ep. 58
In 1985 one of the most groundbreaking designs in automotive history went into production - the Consulier GTP, the first production car with no structural metal. Weighing in at 1900lbs and using only a turbocharged 2.2 liter Chrysler engine with 175hp, the GTP ran circles around most sport cars of the time which prompted the company to take it racing. With over 1g of grip on the skidpad from the factory, the GTP was in it's element on the racetrack, so much so, they were asked not to return to many of the racing series that they entered after numerous uncontested victories. Bad press and no compromise race-bred styling led to slow sales. Several redesigns based on the original GTP where made, which included the Intruder and the Raptor with it's famous V shaped windshield to reduce drag. In 2001, Mosler introduced the MT900. The MT900 followed in the footsteps of the GTP as it was a no compromise race-bred road car. With it's carbon fiber chassis and 350hp LS1, it accelerated to 60mph in 3.5 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 12.0 seconds. Several iterations of the MT900 were made over the years, including the Photon which boasted improved performance and set 9 performance records at the time of testing with Motor Trend.
