This is from the 2010 GSCA Nationals event in Bowling Green, KY. The event was postponed to October from May due to the track being 20' under water. I ran a best of 12.32 during the event and took runner up of the BSA (Buick Stock Appearing)class. This car has completely stock suspension, iron heads, Exhaust manifolds (no headers) and a Rochester quadrajet carb.
Running and Driving my 1966 Ford Ranchero
Has a Ford 302ci with a Holly Street Dominator Intake, Rochester Quadrajet
(not 100% tuned), and Stock Exhaust
(although Dual Exhaust 1 cherry bomb
per pipe and a Y-connection).
Just got it running after sitting for 3 years, still off of 3 year old gas
that sat in the tank (I put cleaner in it, and $10 worth of Regular
It also has a racing clutch, and 4-speed with a Hurst racing shifter. Also
has a stiffened rear end and wide tires. Car supposedly did 7 seconds on
the eighth mile. Have not had it over 35mph yet due to the condition of the
tires. It doesn't shift into 3rd gear yet either - shifter linkage needs
to be adjusted.
This is my 2nd time driving a stick shift (first 10mi) lol. Sorry about
the camera bouncing, wasn't placed well, and I still am not great at the
clutch, plus its a racing clutch at low RPMs... Didn't want to open it up
much just yet since I just got it running, and the Radiator is blown in
this video (almost NO water, and only can run it for about 5 mins without
overheating it, and no I havn't overheated it yet - It's now replaced).
Will have another video soon bringing the RPMs up MUCH higher!
I paid $250 for this car, and $50 more to have it towed up to my house.
Has no rot-through at all.
How to de-bog your Quadrajet part 2
The Rochester Quadrajet has gotten a bad rap over the years, but it's
actually an excellent carburetor once you understand how they work.
Often referred to as "Quadrabog" or "Quadrajunk", many of the issues these
units suffer stem from neglect, or "modifications" that do more harm than
Being a spreadbore, air-valve secondary design, the Quadrajet is capable
of flowing 750 or 800 cfm of airflow, eliminating the need to buy different
carburetors when your set-up changes. In addition, the small primaries make
for great drivability and fuel economy.
In this clip, I'll discuss theory of operation on the secondary side,
since that's where most problems arise. So, leave your preconceived notions
at the door and let's see what makes these carburetors tick.

1966 Buick Convertible Barn Find Rescue, Part 1
This is the story of a '66 Buick Special convertible that had been
abandoned in Arizona in 1978 by the family of Rick Pewe, editor of 4-Wheel
& Off-Road magazine. In 2011, the guys from HOT ROD Magazine, in
conjunction with Rick, spent four days bringing the car back from the dead
with plans to drive it home from Phoenix to Los Angeles. This is part 1,
with the hacking fun the guys had rescuing the car. Look for part two,
loaded with road-trip hilarity. The story is printed in the September 2011
issue of HOT ROD Magazine.
