2014 Audi R8 V10 | Review | Test Drive | Audi R8 | Continental Audi
For 2014, the R8 V-10 gains a new Plus model. Not to be confused with the
ladies in a Lane Bryant ad, Plus here refers to the extra 25 horsepower that Audi coaxed
from the 5.2-liter V-10. Basically, it's the Lamborghini-grade unit found
in the Gallardo LP560-4. Firmer springs and dampers, inspired by the
rarely-seen-outside-captivity R8 GT, are seriously stiff, bordering on
annoyingly bouncy. We'd much rather live with the standard R8's supple
But the biggest change is the newly available seven-speed dual-clutch
automatic called S tronic. A $7800 option on all R8s, it replaces the
clunky automated-manual transmission known as the R tronic. With the S,
part-throttle upshifts are free of any twitchiness, giving the auto R8 the
manners to live in traffic. For maximum acceleration, the S tronic offers
launch control that holds the engine at 4500 rpm before engaging the
first-gear clutch. The R8's owner's manual suggests finding a clear, empty
road before using launch control, as it might cause unwanted attention.
Good advice. Accelerating from zero to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds with the
quarter-mile passing in 11.4 seconds at 126 mph certainly got our
attention. That's two-tenths quicker to 60 and in the quarter than the
525-hp R8 R tronic we previously tested.

2014 Audi RS5 vs 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 507 Coupe! - Head 2 Head Ep. 51

German hot-rod-personal-luxury-coupe is the best you can get. The 507 Coupe
is the last iteration of the W204 C63. With the exception of the very
limited-run Black Series, it's the best C63 that AMG has ever done. Under
its hood sits a hand-built, 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 good for 507
more do you want? Perhaps something more high-tech, and that's where the
Audi RS5 comes in. The sexy coupe from Quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm features
a 4.2-liter V-8 that spits out 450 hp. That¹s less power than the 507
Coupe makes, true, but the Audi also features AWD, a dual-clutch
transmission, bigger wheels and tires, plus a trick torque-vectoring rear
differential. Which one is quicker? Which one is more fun to drive? Which

2014 Audi RS7: Top Speed Bahnstorming in Germany! - Ignition Ep. 80
On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago tests the new Audi RS7 through
over 500 miles of German roads, including top-speed blasts on the
unrestricted Autobahn. With 560 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of
torque from its twin-turbo 4.0-liter
V-8, the RS7 eclipses even the R8's 5.2-liter V-10 in power delivery. We
find out just how monstrous the resulting acceleration is -- as well as the
top speed -- though the green countryside of southern Germany.

500 hp Audi S4 quattro vs 12"+ of fresh snow! Unstoppable...
Last night we enjoyed a great winter storm, well over 12" (30 cm) at my
house. I wanted to see if my lowered Audi S4 on Dunlop Wintersport 4D snow
tires was up to the task going through such deep snow.

► Audi RS 7 Piloted Driving: AWESOME!!!
The Audi RS 7 piloted driving concept car is a technology platform with
which Audi is exploring the possibilities of piloted driving at its most
dynamic. On Friday, October 17 and Sunday, October 19 – prior to the
start of the last DTM race – the concept car will complete one lap on the
Hockenheim ring without a driver. The large, five-door coupe is largely
identical to the production model, but its electromechanical power
steering, the brakes, the throttle valve and the eight-speed tiptronic that
distributes the power to the mechanical quattro drive system are controlled
There are two primary technological considerations during piloted driving
at the physical limit: the highly precise orientation of the vehicle on the
road and absolute control of the vehicle at the handling limits.
The technology platform uses specially corrected GPS signals for
orientation on the track. Accurate down to a centimeter, these differential
GPS data are transmitted to the vehicle via WLAN according to the
automotive standard and redundantly via high-frequency radio. Parallel to
this, 3D camera images are compared in real time against graphical
information stored on board. The system searches in each of the countless
individual images for several hundred known features, such as building
patterns behind the track, which it then uses as additional positioning
Control of the vehicle at the handling limits is another outstanding
feature of the Audi RS 7 piloted driving concept car. Comprehensive
on-board networking coupled with the highly precise control of all actors
relevant to driving enable the technology platform to drive at the physical
limits. The Audi engineers intensively investigated piloted driving at the
handling limits, putting the technology platform through several thousand
test kilometers on a variety of routes.
To demonstrate its capabilities, the Audi RS 7 piloted driving concept car
will drive a clean racing line at the Hockenheimring – with full throttle
on the straights, full braking before the corners, precise turn-in and
perfectly metered acceleration when exiting the corners. Forces of over 1.3
g occur during braking, and lateral acceleration in the corners can reach
1.1 g. Tests on the track in Hockenheim suggested an expected top speed of
240 km/h (149.1 mph) and a lap time of 2 minutes and 10 seconds.
The race track is also the most demanding test bed for production when it
comes to piloted driving. The future systems must also work extremely
precisely and with zero errors in critical situations. They therefore must
be capable of properly assessing the current situation even at the physical
limit. This test bed provides the Audi engineers with a variety of insights
for production development, such as for the development of automatic
avoidance functions in critical driving situations.
