Fastest Street Car 8 second Impala 1/4 mile Drag Racing
Sit down, hang on, and get ready for a 154 mph pass in Pat Spangenberg's legendary 1966 Impala Super Sport. Facts: it weighs 4,000 lbs, it has stock suspension, and runs a 3" Exhaust system with turbo mufflers so it is so quite that you could drive the thing to church. Does this sound like a car that runs in the 8's? Oh ya' and it is street driven !!!
Fastest Street Car in America! Meet 5-Time Drag Week Winner Larry Larson - HOT ROD Unlimited Ep 40
HOT ROD Drag Week is the world's most brutal test of a real street/strip
car, requiring the cars to drive 1,200-plus miles in one week while racing
five days in a row at four different tracks. Larry Larson has done the
impossible, winning five times in a row in his '66 Chevy Nova that has been
as quick as 6.94 seconds in the quarter mile at 200-plus mph. This ranks as
one of the most impressive feats in all of motorsports, and has earned the
Nova the title of HOT ROD Magazine's Fastest Street Car in America. In this
episode of HOT ROD Unlimited, meet the humble chassis builder from Oak
Grove, Missouri, who makes it happen.
HOT ROD Unlimited appears every other Friday on the Motor Trend channel.

NOT MY CAR!!! Just thought it was a cool video.
This beast sports a twin turbo 522cid

the quarter in 7 seconds. How many 70 year old men have the nuts to mash
the throttle on 2000hp? Not sure, but Butch sure does. The Pontiac was
transformed into this behemoth at Nelson Supercars.

The World's Fastest Lotus? - /TUNED
Frank Profera has spent six years making his Lotus go faster, stop shorter, and corner harder.
Though it only has to move around 2,150 lbs, Frank's Lotus makes 680 wheel
horsepower with a
twin-charged 1.8L engine; giving it a better power-to-weight ratio than
Mario Andretti's Formula One Lotus. It's an ongoing project that may never
be finished, because of Frank's never-ending obsession with speed. We had
to take it for a ride.
The Best of George Ray's Wildcat Dragstrip

Fastest 1/4 mile ever 3.58 secs @ 386 mph (621.61 km/h)
Santa Pod dragstrip is the venue in which the current world drag racing
record, a time of 3.58 seconds at 386.26 mph (621.61 km/h) was set by Sammy
Miller in his Vanishing Point funny car in July 1984
The car is powered by a fuel called hydrogen peroxide which is stored in
the large tank at the front of the car.
To pump the fuel to the rocket the tank is pressurised by two tanks of air
- one either side of the car.
Both tanks are connected together with a pair of pipes and fed into a
The regulator keeps the pressure inside the fuel tank at a constant
pressure (between 300-700 psi depending on the thrust required).
There is also a safety valve which will open if anything should over
The fuel is then fed to the throttle valve at the back of the car, this
controls the flow of fuel.
The fuel is then fed into the rocket engine
Inside the engine, the fuel is sprayed onto a silver mesh, a reaction takes
place and the fuel breaks down giving off heat and water.
This produces a blast of high pressure steam & oxygen.
The engine produces about 14,000 lbs of thrust and sends the car forward at
a very high speed.
In 1977 in the Mojave Desert, Kitty O'Neil piloted a hydrogen peroxide
powered rocket dragster built by Ky Michaelson to the quickest quarter mile
elapsed time in auto history, with a timed run of 3.22 seconds at 396 mph
(637 km/h) with an average speed of 279.5 mph (449.8 km/h). This was in
the desert not on a track.
