WCCC Open House / Cruise / BBQ / Great Oregon Steam-Up 2011

Every year in August we have an open house at West Coast Classic Cougar. We are based just outside of Salem, Oregon, and have a wrecking yard full of 67-73 Cougars, and a warehouse full of new and used Cougar parts. It's a two-day event that usually takes place on a Friday and Saturday. On Friday, we have our open house and a small car show. Then in the evening, we cruise over to Silverton for a barbecue at our friend Brian's place in the middle of open farmland. Finally, on Saturday, we attend the Great Oregon Steam-Up at Antique Powerland, located close by our shop in Brooks. This year we had a reserved space for Cougars. There is an endless amount of cool antique machinery to see at this show. If this event sounds like fun to you, hop in your Cougar and we'll see you next year! Visit us online at http://www.cougarpartscatalog.com Subscribe to keep up with our latest videos! Turn Signal Cancelling Cam Replacement
If your turn signals don't turn off after you go around a corner and straighten the steering wheel, this cancelling cam is your culprit. Instead of replacing the whole turn signal switch, you can save yourself some money by just replacing the cam. This video hows how to replace the turn signal cancelling cam on a 1969 Mercury Cougar with a tilt / tilt-away steering column. However, this information applies to a wide range of vehicles from the late 1960's through the mid-1980's, including Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth. The switch we used in this video, plus other related parts we mentioned, can be found here: http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/tusisw.html

Another Cougar in France?? Yep, this time a real 390 GT '67 that has been in France since new. Anthony is the current owner, and hopes to return the car to its original Burgundy color someday. For now, it's bright and yellow and loud, and our photo / video guy Andrew had a blast on this visit. Many thanks to Anthony and his family for their hospitality!

Door Panel Backer Boards - How To Replace (1967-1970 Cougar)
Since door panels aren't reproduced for Cougars, good used originals are valuable. Sometimes, the front vinyl side is usable, but the backer boards are toast. Luckily, there's a solution. We now carry brand new, better-than-stock backer boards made from a more durable pressboard material. We have a version for 1967-1968 Cougars, as well as another version for 1969-1970 Cougars. See links below. In this video, we show you how to separate a vinyl door panel from its old backer board, repair the metal hanger piece, and reattach it and the vinyl to the new backer board. We also cover removal & replacement of the inner beltline strip (the felt-lined trim that touches the door glass). How To Diagnose and Replace a Rear Caliper Using an Infrared Thermometer -EricTheCarGuy
How To Diagnose and Replace a Rear Caliper Using an Infrared Thermometer shows how to use an infrared thermometer to find a bad caliper. This method will also work on front calipers as well. Earlier this year ScannerDanner was visiting the shop and after we came back from a drive in my 2004 Honda Element, we smelled overheated brakes. The smell seemed to be coming from the right rear caliper. Upon further investigation, using an infrared thermometer, I found that that caliper had seized up and needed to be replaced. I've done brake videos like this in the past but never went through this particular diagnostic procedure to figure out what the issue was. It's a method you can use for many other mechanical issues as temperature diagnosis is something that is used throughout the service and repair fields. It's a fast and easy alternative to taking things apart for diagnosis. I hope it's able to help you should you run into similar issues with your own vehicles. Antique Powerland Farm Fair (Great Oregon Steam-Up) Parade 1986
This is some video taken by my grandfather at the Antique Powerland Farm Fair (now known as the Great Oregon Steam-Up) in 1986. This isn't the entire parade, but a fairly good chunk of it. Some of the tractors seen are either no longer in operating condition or are no longer there. A lot has changed at Powerland since then! Taken with a VHS camera.
