WCCC Open House / Cruise / BBQ / Great Oregon Steam-Up 2011

Every year in August we have an open house at West Coast Classic Cougar. We are based just outside of Salem, Oregon, and have a wrecking yard full of 67-73 Cougars, and a warehouse full of new and used Cougar parts. It's a two-day event that usually takes place on a Friday and Saturday. On Friday, we have our open house and a small car show. Then in the evening, we cruise over to Silverton for a barbecue at our friend Brian's place in the middle of open farmland. Finally, on Saturday, we attend the Great Oregon Steam-Up at Antique Powerland, located close by our shop in Brooks. This year we had a reserved space for Cougars. There is an endless amount of cool antique machinery to see at this show. If this event sounds like fun to you, hop in your Cougar and we'll see you next year! Portland Swap Meet - April Fools 2011
Since the famous Portland Swap meet fell around April 1st this year, we had to take advantage of the opportunity. Don (owner of West Coast Classic Cougar) disguised himself and got some undercover, candid feedback from customers and friends from all over the swap meet. Not only was it a good source of survey data, but the swap meet itself was a lot of fun, and we found lots of Cougar parts! A Day In The Life At WCCC
This is an informal video we shot to give you an idea of what it's like at West Coast Classic Cougar on a daily basis. Meet the employees, walk around the facility and get to know us. We're a random assortment of colorful human beings who exist only to provide you with Cougar parts and knowledge.

The Story Of Cougar 1: The First Mercury Cougar
A while back, we sat down with Jim Pinkerton, the owner of the very first production Mercury Cougar (1967 model year), a.k.a. Cougar 1. We hit the "record" button on our cameras and he let loose with an epic tale of how the car was first sold in Canada, its subsequent life there, and how it eventually got into his hands - an intriguing story! He also goes over some of the unique features of the car, and some of the restoration techniques used. It's a truly beautiful factory show car with more attention to detail than the 'average' Cougar. Special thanks to Jim Pinkerton for his time, and for providing most of the images you see in this video from his own collection of Cougar memorabilia. Rusty Roof Replacement - 1968 Cougar
If you have an old car that came with a vinyl top, chances are that you have some rust issues in the roof. This was the case with Andrew's car - a 1968 Mercury Cougar that his grandparents bought brand new in '68. In this video, Andrew takes matters into his own hands to replace his rusted roof skin with a solid donor roof from another car. He is by no means a restoration expert, just an amateur trying to save some money and save his car. Need a roof or other body panels for your classic Cougar? West Coast Classic Cougar has it all. 1967 Cougar Headlight Vacuum Solenoid Tips, Tricks, Do's and Don'ts
We snuck into Brian's garage while he was away and filmed this informational video on the unique 1967 headlight vacuum solenoid. It's a complicated and temperamental little device that you can ruin easily if you don't know what you're doing. Our goal with this video is to help you understand how this solenoid works, and some of the "do's and don'ts" of testing and installing them. Our rebuilt units are listed on our website here: http://www.cougarpartscatalog.com/67hdvacsol.html

Is It Numbers Matching? - Cougar by the Numbers
In this video we delve into the complex topic of decoding tags, date codes, and other numbers to check if your classic Ford / Mercury is "numbers matching," using Don's newly acquired '69 Mercury Cougar XR7 428 Cobra Jet convertible as an example. While we haven't covered the subject 100% in this video (to keep it concise) we think this covers most of the major components and gives you the knowledge you need to figure out what your numbers mean. As mentioned in the video, we highly recommend Marti Auto Works, especially his Tagbook, which made this video possible. 67-68 Cougar Buying Guide: What To Look For
In this video, Don does a detailed inspection on a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7 to show some of the things you should look for when buying one of these classic cars. Some of the insight here can potentially save you hundreds, even thousands, when you go to negotiate with a seller. Also, it will help those of you trying to sell, to more accurately advertise the strengths and weaknesses of your car. We've also done a similar video with a 1970 Cougar convertible, so you may want to check that out too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fizb2vo68vA To look up the parts mentioned in this video, visit http://www.cougarpartscatalog.com Subscribe to our channel to keep up with our latest uploads! Classic Car Carpet Installation
In this video, we show you step-by-step how to install a carpet in your classic car. We used high quality mass-backed carpeting from Auto Custom Carpets. We're no experts on the subject, but this video should give you enough courage to tackle this job yourself. 1968 Cougar 427 GT-E at Barrett-Jackson, Scottsdale 2011
This is the story of Brian Aust and his 1968 Mercury Cougar 427 GT-E. Over the course of about 5 years, he undertook a painstaking restoration to bring the car to the highest level he could, with a little help from his friends (and lots of advice from folks on http://www.mercurycougar.net ). On January 22, 2011, he drove it onto the auction block at Barrett-Jackson, stepped out, and watched it sell for... well, you'll just have to watch to find out! WCCC TV was there to chronicle the experience for your enjoyment, so relax and enjoy! Don't forget to subscribe to our channel to keep up to date with our latest videos. Classic Cougar Pickin' with Scott Taylor (Part I)
On our trip to AZ, we paid a visit to Scott Taylor to have a look at his collection of Cougars. Scott is a well-known Cougar enthusiast, is the registrar for 428 Cougars, and has a sizable collection of classic Mercury Cougars. Many of his project cars are for sale (most of the cars shown in this video).
