WCCC Open House / Cruise / BBQ / Great Oregon Steam-Up 2011
Every year in August we have an open house at West Coast Classic Cougar. We are based just outside of Salem, Oregon, and have a wrecking yard full of 67-73 Cougars, and a warehouse full of new and used Cougar parts.
It's a two-day event that usually takes place on a Friday and Saturday. On Friday, we have our open house and a small car show. Then in the evening, we cruise over to Silverton for a barbecue at our friend Brian's place in the middle of open farmland. Finally, on Saturday, we attend the Great Oregon Steam-Up at Antique Powerland, located close by our shop in Brooks. This year we had a reserved space for Cougars. There is an endless amount of cool antique machinery to see at this show.
If this event sounds like fun to you, hop in your Cougar and we'll see you next year!

A Day In The Life At WCCC
This is an informal video we shot to give you an idea of what it's like at
West Coast Classic Cougar on a daily basis. Meet the employees, walk around
the facility and get to know us. We're a random assortment of colorful
human beings who exist only to provide you with Cougar parts and knowledge.
67-68 Cougar Buying Guide: What To Look For
In this video, Don does a detailed inspection on a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7
to show some of the things you should look for when buying one of these
classic cars. Some of the insight here can potentially save you hundreds,
even thousands, when you go to negotiate with a seller. Also, it will help
those of you trying to sell, to more accurately advertise the strengths and
weaknesses of your car.
We've also done a similar video with a 1970 Cougar convertible, so you may
want to check that out too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fizb2vo68vA

Mercury Cougar - American Muscle Car
An excellent TV show featuring the classic Mercury Cougar. They cover all
the classic years, and talk about all the different engines and option
packages you could get. Only a couple minor mistakes (they say the that
XR-7 package included a 4-speed stick, then show an automatic shifter in
one... derrr) but overall a very nice overview of these cars.
Is It Numbers Matching? - Cougar by the Numbers
In this video we delve into the complex topic of decoding tags, date codes,
and other numbers to check if your classic Ford / Mercury is "numbers
matching," using Don's newly acquired '69 Mercury Cougar XR7 428 Cobra Jet
convertible as an example. While we haven't covered the subject 100% in
this video (to keep it concise) we think this covers most of the major
components and gives you the knowledge you need to figure out what your
numbers mean. As mentioned in the video, we highly recommend Marti Auto
Works, especially his Tagbook, which made this video possible. Visit him

Classic Cougar Prowl (2011)
There's nothing like a classic car show that features your favorite car
almost exclusively. The Cascade Cougar Club put on a great show this year
at the XXX Root Beer stand in Issaquah, WA. Lots of great people and
beautiful cars. In this video, we check out the show and interview some
Cougar owners to get their thoughts.

Trans Am Paddock '66-'72 Sights & Sounds
Happy July 4th! If you have speakers plugged into your computer, turn it
up. Hopefully you have a subwoofer, too! This footage is me walking
through Vic Edelbrock's collection of vintage Trans-Am racecars as they're
being prepared for the Group 7A races and enjoying the sights and sounds...
The Trans-Am Series is an automobile racing series which was created in
1966 by Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). This was the proving ground for
all American manufacturers to compete with race-modified production cars.
It ran until 1972 when at the height of Richard Nixon's incompetence
dealing with OPEC, we had a gas shortage which was compounded by an embargo
levied against us. Syria, Egypt and Tunisia didn't really like Nixon
re-feuling their arch-enemy, Israel. Rather than address the shortage,
the auto industry was heavily regulated to curb consumption. Further
restrictions placed on the oil industry by an other rocket surgeon, Jimmy
Carter, left us unable to further develop our own oil supplies which
cemented these changes to the auto industry. These events changed muscle
cars as we knew them into complete turds for over a decade while US auto
makers struggled with the regulations and re-learned how to produce decent
cars again... but for the "pony cars", it was the beginning of the end.
The oil embargo of 1973 changed the shape of not only the auto industry,
but all forms of auto racing to follow.
You used to be able to afford these cars. I remember when... back when I
was in high school...
But it's 2010 now. This race celebrates all the classic cars you've
dreamed of owning or being seen in. These things auction in the 6+ figures
now (because of their race history). Enjoy this parade of '60's and early
'70's model Ford Mustangs,
Plymouth Barracudas, Mercury Cougars, AMC Javelins, Pontiac Firebirds, and
Dodge Challengers. This event required that they be in their original race
condition in order to run with the Group 7A cars, so the contest to follow
is all about how much compression these 40+ year old cars have left, and
who's driving it. These beauties have been meticulously preserved by the
best collectors, engineers and mechanics in the industry. I hope you guys
can appreciate it because this is off my normal subject material.
I just wanted to change things up and post something American on
Independence day. This one's for the Veterans.

2014 CCOA Western Regionals - Oakley, CA
This show was the biggest gathering of classic Cougars in recent memory,
with over 80 cars showing up. There were 4 GT-E's, 5 XR7-G's, and a whole
lot of other beautiful cats. The venue, provided by Rob Crowder, was
stunning. The weather was sunny. The cruise was fun. The event planning by
Gavin Schlessinger was top notch. With the collaborative efforts of the
Cougar Club Of America and the Mercury Stray Cats (of Northern CA) this
became arguably one of the best Cougar shows of all time. Andrew was on the
scene with cameras rolling to capture the stunning cars and great people
who were there.
