Yamaha YZ-250 Evolution
The Yamaha YZ250 is a two-stroke motocross race bike made by Yamaha. It was
launched in the 1970s, and has been regularly updated since.
The YZ250 has a 249 cc liquid-cooled two-stroke reed-valved engine with a
YPVS Exhaust valve for a wider spread
of power. The engine produces a peak 48.8 horsepower (36.4 kW) at
8,800 rpm and 30.6 foot-pounds force (41.5 N·m) of torque at 7,500 rpm,
with a 9,000 rpm redline.
Since its introduction in 1974, the YZ250 has had a single backbone steel
frame. For the 2005 model year, however, the YZ250 has a new frame made
entirely from aluminum, which brought the dry weight down to 212 lb (96
kg), and more recently in 2010, to 211 lb. The bike has a Swingarm rear
suspension system with more than a foot of travel, as well as telescopic
inverted forks with 11.8 inches (300 mm) of travel. Front and rear
hydraulic disc brakes round out the YZ.
The YZ 250 is a great dirt bike that has been around for a long time and
will be around for a while to come.
YZ250 Port Teaser and First Start
Had to take care of the top end of my YZ250. I took the opportunity to make
my favorite port adjustment that DeoVindice showed me. Have to keep the
details under wraps since they're "proprietary", but it makes for great
gains in bottom end power even with a mid range pipe. I think this
adjustment is a must for any two stroke no matter the type of riding, but
woods riders/racers like myself will benefit the most.
I also attempt to redeem myself for the 250R first start vid. I get it
fired with a few kicks, but the first time I run it around the yard I left
the choke on so the engine sputtered and smoked a bit. Once I turned it off
it ran cleanly and felt like the port work did what I wanted.
Since making this video I've taken the bike for a couple of rides and the
change is dramatic. I can lug the bike up difficult terrain without too
much effort, but then it really wakes up in the mid range (a little too
suddenly thanks to the damn FMF pipe). Carb still needs a little tuning
and if the bike had slightly more low end power it would be perfect; might
be able to coax a bit more out of it the next time it's due. I let a friend
ride this and he said it felt like a four stroke.
First Go pro video 2002 YZ250
Just got a Go Pro HD Hero and I couldn't wait more than 5 seconds before
going on a little test ride! Bike is a 2002 YZ 250 that I have spent some
late nights in the garage on. It's got V force 3 reeds, Pro Circuit
Platinum 2 pipe, rbuilt top end, new forks, ARM racing decals, UFO
plastics, One industries seat cover, Oneal bars, ASV levers, DNA racing
rims and hubs with over sized spokes, and a bunch of other odds and ends!
2stroke vs 4stroke Yamaha YZ250 YZ450F.wmv
Out and about riding dirt bikes in the beautiful BC Canada. Way above
clouds at one point. Starts off with a little hill climb (its actually
steeper than it looks) . Riding around Chipmunk, MT. Thurston, Mt. Cheam
ridge. 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke.
2000 YZ 250 Cold Start
Just a video showing how easy my bike is to start, first kick no choke in
cold weather. Sometimes people are sitting on their bikes for several
minutes just trying to get it going.
2013 Yamaha YZ250
The YZ250 is the standard by which every other 250cc 2-stroke motocross
bike wishes they could live up to. With giggle inducing power, unbelievable
lightweight handling and legendary Yamaha durability. Plus, 2-strokes are
easier and cost less to maintain.
