The range was moved to the newer Ford Fox platform (introduced as the 1978
Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr) for the 1981 model year and was sold
through the 1982 model year. The Granada name was retained, but Ford
retired the Monarch name for its Mercury brand as Ford began using a
stretched Fox platform to underpin the next-generation Mercury Cougar
sedan. Styling of these cars resembled a slightly bigger and more formal
version of the Fairmont, with upgraded interior trim. Base power for the
Fox-body Granada was a 2.3 L Lima I4, with an optional 200 cid I6 and 255
A wagon joined the line-up for the 1982 model year, replacing the Fairmont
and Zephyr wagons, available in "L" and "GL" forms. The Granada became the
first Ford available with the Ford Essex V6. The 1982 model also saw the
return of the Blue Oval logo on the exterior of a Ford vehicle for the
first time since the Great Depression (the logo was however clearly stamped
on an interior aluminum trim piece attached to the door threshold of the
first generation Granada, both two- and four-door models). Although most
other Ford models saw the logo arrive in 1983 (except for the Fairmont,
which was about to be replaced with the Ford Tempo for 1984, and the Ford
Thunderbird, which rarely had any mention of Ford on the vehicle itself for
most of its existence), the Granada saw it arrive a year early, largely as
a test. While Ford had quit using the logo on its vehicles during the
Depression, it had remained over the years as its logo in all other uses
(corporate logo, sales literature, advertisements, owner manuals,
dealership signs, etc.) and decided to use it again on its vehicles.
For 1983 the Granada name and styling was retired in the North American
market, but the model was replaced by a similar Fox-platform-derived model
that used the traditional big-car name LTD. Ford also offered a Mercury
twin as the Marquis.
Ford subcontracted assembly to Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea for
sales in that market, where it continued to be sold from October 1978 to
1986 when it gave way to the Hyundai Grandeur instead of smaller European
Fords like the Sierra and Escort. Production ended in December 1985, after
4,743 had been built. The car originally received a 2.0-liter V6 engine
with a 2-barrel Solex carburetor, but after 1980 the more economical
2-litre four-cylinder was also available. The Granada competed with the
Saehan Rekord as well as the Peugeot 604, imported by Kia Motors. Chung
Mong-pil, the eldest son of Hyundai's founder Chung Ju-yung, died in a car
accident in a Granada.
Additionally, hearses were offered by outside conversion companies, as well
as a series of four-door limousines built by Coleman Milne. These
included the slightly stretched "Minster" 15 cm, and the 68 cm longer
"Dorchester" and better equipped "Grosvenor". As of autumn 1982 the
Dorchester was also available in an estate version with elongated rear
doors, called the "Windsor".[21

The Ford Fairmont is a compact car produced by Ford Motor Company for the
North American market. Introduced for the 1978 model year, the Fairmont was
produced in several bodystyles until it was replaced by the Ford Tempo for
the 1984 model year. The Fairmont was the successor to the Maverick; its
Mercury counterpart was the Mercury Zephyr, which replaced the Comet.
The Fairmont and Zephyr marked the introduction of the long-running Ford
Fox platform, used for a wide variety of later models. Those most closely
related to the Fairmont included the 1980--1982 Ford Thunderbird, the
1981--1982 Ford Granada, the 1979--1993 Ford Mustang (and 1979--1986 Mercury
Capri), and the 1982--1987 Lincoln Continental.

Desert Proofing the Ford Raptor! - Dirt Every Day Episode 2
On this episode of Dirt Every Day, Fred Williams up fits and outfits one of
the coolest 4x4's on the market today, the Ford Raptor. Raptors are high
performance desert machines, but we found one that earns it's owner a
living each week banging around on an obscure desert compound. The owner
is hard on his equipment and we took this poor bird of prey under our wing
for a week to transform it into a more vicious desert predator.
Dirt Every Day appears every other Thursday on the Motor Trend channel.

1979 Ford Fairmont a Closer Look -EricTheCarGuy
Many of you have been asking me about Fairmont videos so I thought I would
make this one where I take a closer look at what I have to work with. I
also talk about some of my plans for this car going forward. I think I have
a really nice 'shell' to work with. I have my work cut out for me that's
for sure, but as I say in the video, that will just make for more
interesting videos. For now, I think I'll drive it. It's a good car after
all. A few minor issues, but nothing to really worry about. I may do some
of the repairs such as the inner tie rod in an upcoming video. I just need
to work out the alignment when I'm done. Looks like an easy job though,
easier than some of the other power steering rack stuff I've done. Anyway,
enjoy the video.

78 Ford Fairmont Station Wagon
This is my 78 Ford Fairmont Station Wagon. Its my daily driver work car. I
have had it for going on 5 years now. I pulled the original engine,
transmission, and rear differential. The engine trans and 8.8 diff came out
of a 89 Mustang. It is a
5.0 with a 5 speed and a 3.73 gear. It also has Mustang Pony Wheels on it. Here is a
short video of me goofing off on my way home from work this past fall. Its
nothing special just an old work car.
