Renault Laguna blown turbo
This was my Laguna 02,
Whilst driving pretty fast on a motorway it suddenly lost over a half of
its power. I pulled over to see what was it but found nothing. I wanted to
continue to drive as I had a date but when I started the engine the rev
counter hand went all the way up and the engine obviously was making a lot
of noise. I wanted to stop the engine pressing the button but it wouldn't
work then I saw a lot of smoke that made me scared :) I ripped out the
access card to stop the engine but surprisingly it wouldn't work either and
after a minute or so of trying I hit the idea to stall it on 1st gear with
with the brakes on - thankfully it worked out. I found myself up in the
smoke in the middle of motor way and a couple of minutes later the fire
brigade was with me but there was nothing to put out.
Called AA to get it of the motorway and that was the very last straw, never
ever Renault again, sold it for parts! didn't get on the date and don't
think the bird believed my story :)

How to Rebuild a Turbo - Part 1 of 2
Rebuilding a td05h 16g turbo. This
process can be applied to many journal bearing turbochargers. :) It definitely comes in handy to
know how to do this when you are in this type of hobby.
4/25/12: Small explanation on the balancing of the rotating assembly since
I get so many comments regarding it. This particular turbocharger, td05h, has its rotating assembly
components balanced separately. This means each individual part (compressor
wheel, turbine wheel/shaft) gets balanced separately. This allows for easy
interchangeability of parts in case they need replacing. This is why I am
able to install a td05 20g wheel on this turbo without having to balance the entire
rotating assembly. THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR ALL turboS OUT THERE. You need to research whether
your specific turbo (if it's not td05h)
was balanced as an assembly or "component balanced" like I explained above.
I hope this information helps. Good luck in your projects. Stay Boostin'

8V53T Detroit Diesel first start
Detroit Diesel 8V53T, (turbo just
removed for test run) this is literally the first starting attempt after
bringing it home, it had sat for years. Not so many 8V53 Detroits were
made, and very few turbocharged ones,
This is one of about four I know of.
Runaway Diesel Defender 200 TDI
Joes landrover defender 200 TDI started for the first time after a years
rebuild and this is what happens when the engine runs off its own oil
MTU 8V 396 diesel engine catastrophic failure
This is a MTU 8V 396 diesel engine blowing up. This video was shown during
a rebuild class I just took. Not really sure what happened. My guess would
be that it spun a bearing, causing a piston to try and sieze, in turn
throwing a rod. Pay attention at 24 seconds to the engine torquing hard to
the left and the terrible sound it makes until it lets go...
EPIC FAIL Turbo blown Detroit Diesel Series 60 12.7 MCI BUS smokey mess!
This engine did not run away, it was not sucking in oil. The driver thought
the bus was on fire and immediately began evacuating passengers as soon as
the bus stopped. For the person that called someone a dumbass and said the
bus started in reverse, absurd! The bus has an automatic transmission - how
is the starter going to crank the engine over in the proper direction THEN
instead of turning right after its already spinning its just starts turning
left? Absurd! The bus was shut off off once and was not restarted, it was
towed from the scene. He shuts it off just as I pass by the rear of the
bus(see annotation). I was behind this listening to the turbo climbing an overpass. There was a loud BOOM,
then smoke everywhere I couldn't see a foot infront of me. turbo let go, leaving a trail of oil. All the
smoke that you see, with out the proper air mix from the turbo the engine is not burning the fuel correctly
so that's why you see all the gray smoke! The engine is running at around
1,000 RPM if the engine had ran away it would be have been loud an in
pieces. A lowboy was called but couldn't pick up due to angle of over pass
and potential for tipping. So, a wrecker was called to hook from the front.
