Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Chrysler 300 - etrailer.com

installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today on this 2007 Chrysler 300 we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13465. We are underneath the vehicle, the first thing we want to do is lower down the Exhaust. Depending on your model you may have a single Exhaust or a dual Exhaust. On this particular vehicle we have a single Exhaust. There is a hanger here at the rear side of the Exhaust and a second one here at the forward side that we want to remove as well. If we follow forward we need to lower down these two hangers here as well. On the rear hanger some models will have this grounding strap, you want to make sure you take that off as well before you lower the Exhaust down. :39
Before you lower the Exhaust off its hangers we are going to take a spray lubricant like a WD-40 and spray down the studs of the Exhaust. With the studs lubricated, we want to take a pair of pliers or a pry bar and take and separate the two pieces. Before I lower down the final two hangers here at the forward side, we do want to put a support strap across the Exhaust tube here. If the Exhaust is not properly supported when we lower the Exhaust off the final two hangers it will down and damage the system. I am gong to be using a basic ratchet strap. With the Exhaust lowered, it is a good idea to remove the rear most hanger off of the frame until we get the hitch installed, then we will put it back into place. 1:27
Taking a look over here on the driver side frame rail you can see we have two existing weld nuts here at the end of the frame and then an open hole here at the forward side. These are going to provide our three attaching points for our trailer hitch. Over here on the passenger side it is a little bit different, we have got the single weld nut near the end of the frame and two holes here at the forward side. Those will be our three attaching points here on the passenger side of the vehicle. The next thing we are going to do is fish that carriage bolt and block assemblies inside the frame, through the open holes in both sides of the frame. To do this, we are going to be using a 1/2inch bolt leader which is provided with the installation kit and starting over here on the drivers side, again we just have this single open hole, we are going to take and feed the bolt leader through the attaching hole and back out this oblong hole that is going to be our access hole. We will next take the 1 by 3 inch block and slide it onto the bolt leader, followed by the 1/2 inch carriage bolt which will take and wrap the threads of the bolt leader around the threads of the carriage bolt, that will help pull it inside of the frame. Next, take and feed the carriage block inside the frame, followed by the carriage bolt and pull it down into position. You want to repeat that setup with the two open holes on the passenger side as well. 2:45
With the carriage bolts in position, the next thing we want to do is go ahead and clean out the weld nuts in the frame. Any vehicle that has seen at least one winter is going to have some corrosion and possible road grime built up in there which is going to make it difficult to get our bolts in. To do this I am going to take a spray lubricant, like a WD40 and spray down the weld nuts. We will next take a wire brush and run that inside the weld nuts. This is going to help loosen up that rusted debris that is built up in there. Once that is done you can take the bolt and test fit it to see how much resistance you are going to have. There is some resistance still so I am going to clean it out a couple more times. You want to do this for the two weld nuts on the driver side and the one weld nut on the passenger side as well. Once that is done we can put our hitch up into position. Into each weld nut we are going to be using 12 millimeter bolts along with the conical tooth washer. Now that we have the hitch up into position and all the hardware into place we want to torque our bolts down. You want to check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. With our hitch torqued down, we want to make sure we put our Exhaust hanger back onto the frame. 3:53
Now that we have our hitch installed we are going to give you a couple final installed dimensions to help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 10-1/2 inches. From the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is approximately 8 inches. That will conclude the installation of Curt hitch part number 13465 on this 2007 Chrysler 300.
