DIY: How to Restore Headlights (Sanding and Spraying)
Permanently restore your headlights like if they were straight out of the factory by wet sanding and spraying a clear coat. Sandpaper Perfect! Clean your headlights the right way and permanently! Use sandpaper and a good clear coat for that perfect brand new headlight look. Stop using toothpaste, or whatever household materials that hardly make a difference. Paint used: Dulpi-Color Acrylic Enamel. This video will explain how to make your vehicles headlights clean once again. I used materials that are cheaper than most headlight restoration kits. I used acrylic enamel paint (clear)(dont use krylon), 600 grit sand paper, 1500 grit sand paper, and masking tape. All of which were bought at a local auto parts store. The outcome (if done correctly) can prove to be better than most headlight restoration kits. When sanding, wet the headlight and the sand paper. Make sure there is plenty of water. (This is called wet sanding) WARNING: THIS IS NOT AN EASY PROCESS. IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE, IT TAKES QUITE A BIT OF WORK TO FIX. The Old Version is available at this link: http://youtu.be/QQOHaqD1rCM These videos are for DIY-ers. They are not intended to have professional results. They are intended to have similar effects, at a much cheaper price, and without purchasing professional tools. Join VIP Here: http://www.learnautobodyandpaint.com/vip-offer/ Read the Headlight Restoration Buffing or Clearing, What's Best? Blog Here: http://www.learnautobodyandpaint.com/best-headlight-restoration-buffing-or- clearing/ Hey, What’s going on?! The cool thing about this week’s video is, I’ve tested this process out over a few years… We’re going to discuss whether it’s better for you to clear coat your headlights when restoring them or should you just buff them out? So basically, the question is – what is best for Headlight Restoration, Buffing or Clearing? If you’re looking for a short-term solution, you can just buff them out which is basically sanding them down with 2000-grit then buff them like I show in the video. That should give you six months, one year, maybe even a year and a half with great-looking headlights. It depends whether the car is parked in the garage or if it’s in the sunlight a lot. If it’s the latter, it’s going to start looking dull in about 8 months to about a year. Then you’ll need to wash them down again with 2000-grit sandpaper and give them another shot at buffing. So that should be great if you’re looking for a quick but not a permanent solution like if you’re buying and selling cars for profit, you want the front to look great, go ahead sand them and buff them out like I show in the video above. However, if you’re looking for a longer-term solution, do the same thing but don’t use 2000-grit sandpaper. I used to use it but it’s no good because after about 18 months, they start to peel. What I do nowadays is, sand them down with with about 1200-grit sandpaper and then clear coat them. Don’t sand it using any finer sandpaper because it will start to bubble on the edges. I did a couple of cars and I went back to Hawaii a few months ago and I’ve seen some of my friends’ cars that we tested this on and it looked like they started to bubble so we had to redo them. And I have these on videos for you. Make sure you watch the video to see how it’s done. After that, if you’re into auto body and paint or customizing your cars and all that stuff, check out the LearnAutoBodyAndPaint VIP Course. I’m giving away a FREE 85-Page Auto Body And Paint Manual that walks you through repairing dents, putting two-tone paint jobs on, rust repair, body repair, all that stuff and I guarantee you will get a lot of great information. Restoring Headlights with 3M Kit -EricTheCarGuy
I've done other headlight restoration videos, one in fact, but when I tried this kit earlier this year I found it to be the easiest and most effective kit that I've used to date. I chose the kit for the drill but if you don't have a drill you can also get the 'human' operated kit. As you'll see in the video that kit comes with a few extra items. Just be sure to mask off the area before you begin work. If not, you might end up with some scratches on your finish. Otherwise I feel this is something any DIYer can do and get great results from. Using Bug Spray to Clean Headlights (WARNING!!!)
Bug spray headlight restoration, This is a video to show you how bug spray with DEET, can clean and restore headlights by removing oxidation, haze, and yellowing plastic. Hopefully this clears things up and shows you the truth behind using bug spray to restore headlights! The problem with the bug spray is that it doesnt last and it will damage your headlights and can damage your paint and trim. I go into why the OFF Deep Woods bug spray works, how it can damage your paint, and if you do want to try it, how to apply it to reduce the chances of any damage. I do not recommend using this method to clear up your headlights, instead I recommend using toothpaste which will not damage your headlights or the surrounding trim/paint. Here is the BEST method to use to make your headlights permanently clear! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEJbKLZ7RmM Here is how to use Toothpaste to get the same results: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXHTXdlWw1w How to get your headlights SUPER CLEAR (Using Sandpaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrlIhRea8u8 ***If the video was helpful, please give it a "thumbs up" and consider subscribing.
