1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass convert to Lexus 1UZ engine. Deep V8 Sound
My 81' Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme had originally a thirsty 260 cubic inches V8 engine with a shameful 105 horsepower. In the early 80ties the American ideology was, cutting horsepower to get a better fuel consumption. It was completely wrong. Thirsty means because of underpowered (full throttle every time). I decided to change the engine 18 months ago and I installed the famous 1UZ Lexus engine, including the transmission. It was quite a bit of work, specially the electric installations, but it was worth it. The "new" fuelinjected 4 liter V8, with four cams and 32 valves, never gave me any troubles and it runs by 10 liter/100 km (average traffic). At Highway speed, the electronic controlled Lexus transmission allows me to run the engine on 1'800 rpm at 120 km/h. I also built a custom Exhaust system to keep the nice deep V8 sound. With almost 300hp my Baby keeps up with almost every average muscle car.
