Burt Reynolds’ Last Smokey & the Bandit 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Goes On Auction
Before you go all “hey that car already sold at auction last year for almost half of million dollars” let us remind you there's more than one Smokey and the Bandit custom built Pontiac Trans Am. This particular model is the last “Bandit” car built for Burt and will go under the hammer in two weeks.  The 1977 Trans Am sold in December was part of a several-hundred-item collection of memorabilia Reynolds decided to sell through the Julien’s Auction House at a sale in Las Vegas. The huge collection included everything from his awards and art collection to props from several of his movies. At the time, tabloids were already spreading rumors that the famous actor was facing some financial problems and needed to get money quick, rumors Reynolds later denied.  Broke or not, the 79-year-old Hollywood star has now decided to give away what apparently is the last Bandit ride. According to Carlisle Auctions, the complete restoration of the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am was built by the actor’s friend Harold Murphy, owner of the renowned Murphy Auto Body and Restoration of West Palm Beach.  As one of his long-time friends, Murphy restored many of Burt’s vehicles in the past, including his personal airplane and was the natural choice to build a Bandit auto for the actor.  The catch? As we said, it appears this particular one was built with the agreement it will be the last “Bandit” ever created for Burt. As such, all efforts were put into it to make it as authentic as possible. Along with the classic collectible, the highest bidder will also receive an autographed hat and jacket worn by Burt in the photos.  Both are reproductions of the ones the actor wore in the famous movie while his signature is also present on the dash and hood of this “faithful recreation”.
