I decided to stick my head in for a look at Jamboree 2011 while on holidays in Queensland recently. Cool cars and hot women make this event a mandatory addition to everyone's event list.
There's a couple little editing glitches in the video, but it took so long to render and upload, I decided to let them be.
TOYTON - Unblown to Blown in Five Minutes
Okay, we sped the footage up a little but in all honesty Rob Godfrey went
from an unblown big block to an 8/71 combo in less than 20 minutes. For
those that don't know the car it is one of Australia's top Street Machines,
winning both Street Machine of the year and Summernats Grand Champion. with
the only naturally aspirated 632ci combo it made 1050rwhp and run eights on
the quarter. The new blown 502ci combo is more cruisable, but makes less
power. Looks bloody awesome though.
The girls appeared as soon as Rob fired the car up. Very cool.
BLWNLUX - World's Toughest Hilux
Forget the Top Gear Hilux. This has to be the toughest Toyota Hilux in the
world. Brett Battersby has jacked up this '87 Hilux and filled the engine
bay with 540 cubes of blown and injected big block Chev. Check out those
1000HP Ratrod Pick-up Fries the Tyres And Transmission
It's been a while since we've seen Denis Maloney's RatRod Dodge puick-up at
a competition and that's because it was getting this new beast of an
engine. Denis has just fitted this 1000hp+ 410ci Chrysler small block,
complete with methanol injection. It's a crazy beast and more than a little
scary. Halfway through the burnout you could tell the auto wasn't really
happy and the back wheels weren't spinning they way they should have been,
then the flames started and while I haven't confirmed this, I wouldn't be
surprised if it was trans fluid causing the fire. Hopefully he'll get it
all sorted soon.
Project Digger Burnout Testing
Back when the Army's Project Digger was first getting built I was invited
along to film some burnout testing. As you can see the car wasn't finished
but with time getting short before Summernats 23 they wanted to make sure
it was right to go.
Unfortunately, as a direct result of the testing they decided to not do any
burnout at Summernats that year due to cooling issues. But it sure looked
So for those that haven't seen it in action, here you go.
Summer Skidfest at Heathcote Raceway
It's the last hit out for the year, and the last chance to check your rides
before Summernats, the Summer Skidfest was all about good time and having
fun. As the name suggests there were plenty of burnout but there was also
some powerskids, caravan racing, and the massive meltdown of the remains of
said caravan racing.
For the first time out it was a great little event and hopefully we'll see
it again next year.
Harley Wheelstand - Hang on!
This Harley rider got a little more than he bargained for when he launched
at Sydney Dragway recently. He did well to stay on it and then he even got
back into the throttle. Bloody amazing.
Summernats 25 - Day One
Okay, so it's not actually day one because Summernats hasn't officially
started, but the cars are rolling through the gates in prepartion for
tomorrow when things really kick off. Some cool cars were coming through
scrutineering this afternoon, and unfortunately I couldn't film them all.
But I did manage to catch up with Rob Godfrey and his Summernats & SMOTY
winning TOYTON. It's back with a new donk and a few surprises.
Sorry about the dark video at the start, I though the new camera would be
better than that in low light. Oh well, another lesson learned. Come back
tomorrow and check out all the action from Thursday.
Silver Bullet Becomes Voodu Bullet
Most car people in Australia would know about Gary Myers Silver Bullet.
Well he sold it not that long ago to Victorian car enthusiast Perry Meka.
Perry has given the Mustang
a freshen up and renamed it Voodu Bullet. It's been resprayed with new
airbrushing, given Nitrous and a new
FBSS airbag system. Looks pretty cool. For those that don't know the engine
is a 392 Hemi with two Superchargers.
Ultimate Burnout Challenge 2011
The third annual Ultimate Burnout Challenge was a success with over 100 of
Australia's best burnout machinery doing battle for a chance at the $10,000
first prize. Everyone who is anyone in the burnout scene was there to
compete or check out the action with the top ten from the days competition
shooting it out under lights for the big money. We won't tell you who won,
watch the video for that, but it was well deserved.
Enjoy the video, we've got much more action coming from UBC3 over the
PH5YCO Escort With a NASCAR Engine
Shoving a NASCAR engine into a little Ford Escort is a sure way to have a
good time but with the wet Springnats burnout track it's hard to keep
things under control. Nice revving little machine though.
Double Trouble - Two Burnouts at the Same Time
We've seen two cars on the burnout pad at the same time before but never so
close together. Usually one will smoke them up while the other waits to
take their turn but at Springnats we were given a rare treat. Debbie and
Peter Gray on the burnout pad at the same time!
Debbie is in the Camaro
while Peter is in the Monaro.
Ratrod Pick-up Has Got Mopar Power
Denis Maloney is still working out the kinks in his Ratrod Dodge pick since
going to the blown and injected set-up. It makes a crapload of power but I
think the trans keeps getting hot and spewing trans fluid on the headers.
WONAGO - World's Best Sounding V8
Being a Summernats virgin, Justen Brown made sure he got out there and
checked out the burnout pad before the big qualifying show on Saturday.
This was a practice run on Friday and the crowd loved hearing the 377ci
small block Chev sing. I reckon it's one of the best sounding engines in
the burnout scene right now. Pure music!
