2015 Porsche 918 Spyder First Test: Fastest 0-60 Time Ever? Plus Porsche 959! - Ignition Ep. 109
On this week's Ignition, Carlos Lago has a second go at Porsche's 918
hypercar. The goal: to run the 918 through the full gauntlet of MT's
instrumented testing, including 0-60, quarter mile, braking, figure 8, and
a blistering real-time hot lap around Big Willow race track with pro driver
Randy Pobst. Carlos also gets a rare chance to experience the 918's
ancestor, the Porsche 959. The 959 was a remarkable piece of automobile
history that was decades ahead of its time with much of it's technology
only appearing in common vehicles within the last ten years or so. The 918
attempts something very similar, featuring very advanced technology,
including a naturally aspirated V8 that works with a seamlessly integrated
electric motor to provide extra Boost. Can Porsche's new hypercar achieve the
same effect that its predecessor did? Only time will tell, but stay tuned
for the record-breaking review.

The Porsche 918 Spyder Tested - CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS
The plug-in hybrid, mid-engine hypercar: The Porsche 918 Spyder.
Tested by /DRIVE's Chris Harris at the Valencia circuit in the winter of
2013. The Porsche 918 Spyder has come a long way since when we first saw
it at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. Competing against the Ferrari
LaFerrari and McLaren P1, it is the cheapest of the trio of new hypercars
at a base price of $845,000.
The engine weights 140 kg according to Porsche and it delivers 608 horsepower (453 kW) at
8,500 rpm and 528 N·m (389 lbf·ft) of maximum torque. This is
supplemented by two electric motors delivering an additional 279 hp (208
kW) - One 154 hp electric motor drives the rear wheels in parallel with the
engine and also serves as the main generator.

225mph Ride in Nine Excellence 9eXX Porsche 996 Turbo
It's not every day of the week you're in a car at 225mph but I was
fortunate enough to have the fantastic experience to ride shotgun in the
9eXX from Nine Excellence. Based on a Porsche 996 turbo but very much not a standard car running a
potential 1350hp taking part in the fantastic Vmax Quicksilver event from
Vmax 200 (https://www.facebook.com/vmax200) and Quicksilver Exhausts (https://www.facebook.com/QuickSilverExhausts).
Of course a huge thanks go to the owner of the car for taking me out onto
the 2 mile runway and reaching a speed of 225mph or 362km/h, I'm not sure
I'll ever go faster again in my
You can also check out some of the fantastic work by Nine Excellence too
Here's a screen grab of the moment we crossed the timing beacons showing
the reported 225mph.
Thanks for watching, Tim

DIY - changing oil on a Porsche 996
A short tutorial to demonstrate how to change oil on your water cooled 911.
Applies to 996 and 997 cars - and quite similar for Boxsters and Caymans.
Even turbos and GT3 will be similar
(although there's a secondary drain plug on them).
I also demonstrate how to open up the filter to inspect for metal
particles. A few metal particles is normal - a lot shows excessive wear.
Drain plug torque = 37 ft.lbs.
Oil filter torque = 19 ft.lbs.
Oil capacity - 8.7 quarts
Sorry for some of the jumpy editing, but I had to keep it under 10 minutes

How to Change the Ignition Coils and Spark Plugs in a 2002 Porsche 911
At 80k miles my 2002 Porsche 911 gave me a warning and check engine light
that there was a problem with the ignition system. I diagnosed it with a
Durametric tool and turned out to be coil #1 was bad and was missing or
misfiring so there was a slight stumble on the right bank. Decided to
change all six with spark plugs too.
The procedure is the same for all Porsche 996's 1999-2004 and will also be
the same for the early 997's. Parts were purchased on eBay, but you can
also find them from AutoHaus AZ. The Beru coils were amazingly
inexpensive, a little over $40 each. Enjoy the video and hope this provides
you instructions on how to do this relatively easy DIY procedure, just be
patient as things can get a little tight in those areas.
The 911 runs amazingly well after this procedure.
