Pinto on R1 Bike Carbs
Just got a new manifold from Bogg Bros. It is a work of art! The carbs
are 40mm off a '98 Yamaha YZF R1.
It was a little lean and was spitting back out of the inlets but I went one
size up in the idle jets and now it is very well behaved.
1971 ford 2.0 pinto engine
1971 ford pinto 4cyl overhead cam engine, has around 50K miles, I dug it
out of my dads shop while cleaning, it had been sitting for around 12
years. We poured fresh fuel in and cleaned the points, and after a few
failed attempts caused by faulty starter solenoids, we jumped the cables
and she just fired right up =P sold it to an 86 year old man for a 1927
model A to sit in parades. His original engine 27 will cruise 70 MPH all
day long, but is hard to drive at low speeds, it overheats and has ancient
controls, whereas the 2.0 automatic will sit in traffic all day... He was
going to put this in his, but decided to build a new one since that is an
original. I want to be like that at 86 lol
Tuned 2.1l Ford Pinto SOHC in anger...
Short clip of a tuned Ford Pinto SOHC engine - bored to 2.1litres, Big
Valve head, ported and polished, match inlet, twin Dellorto DHLA45 carbs,
electronic ignition and a custom Exhaust manifold. This engine made 170bhp on
the rollers at Redline Tuning in Iver, and snapped the propshaft universal
joint like a carrot during a test run - Happy days :).
Zakspeed Escort (Hans Heyer,Gary Wilkinson)
Gary Wilkinson's 280hp Zakspeed mk2 escort,

2.2 Ford SOHC pinto Engine with open pipes - Mk1/Mk2 RS2000 Escort/Cortina Kitcar

Bolt & Washer Sets:
2.2ltr ford sohc 'pinto' engine
offset ground crank, diesel rods, cologne v6 cast alloy pistons, teflon
buttons, Burton power rings, stainless steel one-piece inlet & ex., valves
(44.5 & 38mm respectively - wasted stems and inlet seat further narrowed).
Epoxy resin used to improve shape of inlet port - 'Apple port' as per David
Vizzard book specs.
2x Twin 45mm Dellorto DHLAs with (If I remember correctly) 38mm Chokes.
Infact, the specs I followed are available in Des Hammill's book 'How To
Power Tune Ford SOHC 'PINTO' Engines. He gives several examples of motors
including 2-3 set-ups for Pinto engines including 2100cc which is the one I
used. It got the results you see above.
Cylinder Head work has been elaborate and very time consuming (Valve guides
have been ground flush with the roof on both inlet and Exhaust ports).
Exhaust ports enlarged throughout. -
Both in. & ex. throts have neen 'throated' and then blended in upstream
with the rest of the port.
Heavy duty bearings all around including camshaft.
Standard ford factory camshaft & springs used during this video.
Standard points type distributor etc etc..
Mechanical Compression approx 10.8:1 (I used 100octane shell V-power
petrol for my runs).
Standard flywheel had all the available mass machined off to give the
lightest possible unit whilst retaining the most of the strength. It has
five steel dowel + 6x ARP bolts fastening it to the crank.
Crank was machined at halesowen engines (Don't think they do it anymore as
old man retired) then heat treated at laystall crankshafts in Wolverhampton
(different trading name now I think) and also polished at laystall
Diesel rods have seen some machining to get them to fit the crankshaft
(Rods are thicker and longer + a little hevier when standard).
Rods fitted with ARP YB cosworth rod bolts (No nuts).
I spent the best part of 7 years building this engine.
It has been a financial disaster and I would not do it again.
Saying that however, the value of building and running the engine
successfully will most likely reveal itself as the years go by.
I'm pleased you like the video and wish you great results with your
(Dedicated to my uncle).

Classic Ford magazine's 2.1 Ford Pinto engine build on HT Racing's dyno
Here's Classic Ford magazine's Project 2.1 Pinto being set-up and run-in on
the HT Racing Dyno by
HT's Aaron Tucker and Vulcan Engineering's Steve Curson. The engine went on
to make a corrected 161.7 bhp. For the full build-up, see the August,
September and Summer 2009 issues of Classic Ford.

Ford Capri Mk1 - 160 Hp - Pinto Race Engine
My Capri mk1 GT with Pinto engine and Brainless Exhaust System 3" Selfmade with Hks Muffler and
Fk dumper and Magnaflow with Race Headers. Sounds great for an Pinto OHC
Engine. Stainless Steel.
The engine is modified by my self and have a lot of horsepower. Never was on the
roll, but i Dragraced again a Bmw E36 325 with 192Hp and I was faster by 1 second on the 1/4 Mile.
Crazy Sound with Wheelspin in 2. Gear. On the Hockenheim Race Track the car
beats a Maserati Biturbo and some old
Porsche 911. The Car is Street Legal.
Tyres are Federal SS595 with 205/60 R13 - great tyres for a good price. In
future the car maybe become a capri turbo with a k04 turbocharger. The engine is a ohc pinto like in
the escort mk2 rs2000 rally cars. but no 16v cosworth engine and no 1800rs.
It could be good to drive rallyes too to be an rally car.
the cars weight is only 890kg ;-) so the handling is really great!
I wishI could buy the Federal 595 RS-R in the right dimension.
