The E-body coupes were converted to unibody construction and further
downsized for 1986, to a 108 in (2,700 mm) wheelbase shared with the Buick
Regal. The V6 was now the only engine, rated initially at 142 hp (106 kW)
SAE and 200 lb·ft (270 N·m) of torque. It used the turbo-Hydramatic 440-T4 automatic with a 2.84:1
final drive ratio. This generation was noted for advanced electronic
instrumentation, including the first automotive touchscreen controls, which
were on a dash-mounted 9-inch (230 mm) CRT display. Four-wheel disc brakes
were standard. With a choice of three suspension packages available, up to
the performance oriented FE3 setting, handling was notably improved. The
Riviera placed fourth for Motor Trend's 1986 Car of the Year contest.
Fuel economy was notably improved for the 1986 Riviera, but the substantial
investment in the downsized, transverse engine front wheel drive platform
resulted in a substantial price increase, to $19,831 to the base model and
$21,577 for the new T-Type. Downsizing also resulted in a dimensional
similarity to smaller, less expensive offerings from GM, with shared
styling cues reinforcing the unfortunate resemblance.
1989-1993 Buick Riviera
The smaller dimensions, generic styling, and lack of V8 power soured
buyers, and sales plummeted to 22,138 for 1986, only 15,223 for 1987, and a
dismal 8,625 for 1988. A restyle for 1989 that added 11 inches (280 mm) to
the overall length (on an unchanged wheelbase) helped, but only
incrementally, Boosting sales to
21,189 for 1989, but dropping to a low of 4,555 for 1993, the shortened
final year of that model. The last 1993 Riviera rolled off the
Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly plant line on December 10, 1992.
Sales in the personal luxury coupe segment were in decline from 1986
onward, although it is unclear whether the general market trend was
initiated by the poor public reception of GM's newly downsized offerings or
an inevitable shift in the tastes of the buying public.

1989 Buick Riviera w/ CRT Interface Demo Start Up, Exhaust, and In Depth Review
Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! YouTube's largest collection of automotive
variety! In today's video, we will take an up close and personal in depth
look at the 1989 Buick Riviera. The first year of the slant-back body
styling. In absolutely immaculate shape. I was contacted by a private
owner of this car and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. This 30k mile
beauty came with the unique and quite advanced CRT touch screen interface.
Basically controls all functions of the vehicle as you would in a modern
vehicle equipped with touch screens! This one also came with the vinyl
roof delete, which a lot of people prefer. WELCOME to the most in depth
'89 riviera video on youtube :D During this presentation, we will take a
1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start
up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build
quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and
exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get
from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight
key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available
options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the
good ole engine portion with rev and Exhaust note with interior and exterior
perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a
greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

1989 Buick Reatta
Buick made this two seater from 1988 to 1991. It also had a convertible
variant first offered in 1990. It was fairly advanced, offering fully
and 4 wheel disc brakes. Cadillac also offered a two seater Allante. Two
passenger cars have not had a very successful run here in the U.S. The
exception is Corvette, one of a kind!
1988 Buick Reatta Walk around
Another one of my odd GM vehicles. This one is a Buick Reatta 2 seater
hard top. Features a CRT touch screen system (same as the one found in the
old Rivieras) that controls the climate control, radio, diagnostics and
several other features. This is one of those cars you don't see every day!

1991 Buick Reatta
See more at
1991 Buick Reatta. Declaired a future classic by Motor Trend this is a rare
example of this car. Had built at the Lansing Craft Centre in Lansing,
Michigan, less that 20,000 of these Reattas were ever made. The Reatta
shared engine and interior design with the larger Buick Riviera. Styling
cues included hidden headlamps and a bubbleback rear window. The Reatta
sported its own unique body style and was crafted with an attention to hand
finishing uncommon for a mass-production automobile. The Reatta is powered
by a General Motors' 165-horsepower 3.8-liter V6
mated to a 4-speed OD automatic transmission. Fully independent suspension,
Four-wheel disc brakes with antilock control were standard. Rated at 27 MPG
highway the Reatta is powerful yet efficient. See video of this car on

1966 Buick Convertible Barn Find Rescue, Part 1
This is the story of a '66 Buick Special convertible that had been
abandoned in Arizona in 1978 by the family of Rick Pewe, editor of 4-Wheel
& Off-Road magazine. In 2011, the guys from HOT ROD Magazine, in
conjunction with Rick, spent four days bringing the car back from the dead
with plans to drive it home from Phoenix to Los Angeles. This is part 1,
with the hacking fun the guys had rescuing the car. Look for part two,
loaded with road-trip hilarity. The story is printed in the September 2011
issue of HOT ROD Magazine.
Why It's Dumb To Lift A Vehicle
Scotty Kilmer, mechanic for the last 47 years, shows why it's not such a
great idea to raise a vehicle with a suspension lift kit. Whether it be a
car or a truck, it often does bad things to both the suspension and drive
train that can lead to expensive repairs down the road.
1992 Cadillac Allante Start Up, Exhaust, and In Depth Tour
In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 1992 Cadillac Allante.
The car back in the day was as impressive as it's history. Making trips to
italy and pininfarina design, and cadillac's first $50k + automobile. It
was updated in 1993, which was also it's last year of production, with the
northstar V8, the first cadillac to be fitted with it. By end of
production it was topping $65-70k. Liquid crystal gauges, unique interior
and exterior make this car one of the most unique cadillacs built at the
time. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of
this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique
styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details
of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough
tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall
appreciation of the vehicle.
