Top 10 List – Best V8 Swaps from LS Fest Las Vegas

May 24th, 2024

LS Fest in Las Vegas has something for everyone. There’s drag racing, roll racing, drifting and off-road racing. There are plenty of vehicles to take on every demarcation. This clip focuses on the 10 most impressive LS swaps on the property (as seen by 1320 Video).

10). Is a 1993 Mazda RX-7 with an LS6 6.0-liter V8 from a 2003 Chevy pickup. This guy has drifting on his mind.

9). It’s obvious that the owner of this 1967 front engine Dragster (with a nitrous fed 4.8-liter LS motor) is all about the straight lines. His first pass is a 9.13 @ 149 mph.

8). The R33 Nissan Skyline is a sight to behold with its right-hand drive and LS3 V8 mated to a TR6060 manual gearbox. Drifting is his game.

7). Billed as the fastest Hearst on earth, this drag car is powered by a 7.0-liter LS7. The top end is Frankenstein with a pair of 80-millimeter turbochargers. The transmission is a 4L80 automatic. His “last ride” began with a pass of 9.37 @ 140 mph followed by an 8.6-second pass @ 150 mph.

6). A purpose-built drift car, this BMW 2-Series is one of five on the planet. Believe it or not, this turnkey drift car is powered by a 454 cubic-inch V8 Dart block pumping out 700hp.

5). What the heck? It’s a 2011 Armorworks Hyena swapped from a 4-cylinder diesel to a 6.0-liter LS motor. This thing looks like an all-wheel drive beast.

4). The All-American Sender is a 1997 Ford F-350 4X4 that came with a 7.3-liter Powerstroke diesel engine. The super smoker has been removed and a 525hp 5.3-liter LS engine has been implanted. This is a one-of-a-kind stump jumper/urban assault vehicle is not designed to drive around other cars. It’s made to jump over them.

3). You’ve gotta see the 1974 VW Super Beetle called Gray Matter. The engine has been removed from the rear and a turbocharged 6.0-liter LS truck motor sits where the trunk once was. This thing is riding on a Chevy S-10 chassis with an all-wheel drivetrain. Smitty has built himself a 10-second No Prep drag car.

2). In the grocery-getter category, we have the 1986 Volvo Wagon. The tractor motor has been scrapped for an LS3 V8 with a Magnuson supercharger. This Volvo is a daily driver that posts consistent (low) 9-second quarter-mile passes and laid down 822whp on the dyno.

1). Finally, our best LS swap is a BMW 3-Series drift car with a blown 6.0-liter LQ4 V8 protruding through the hood. Dedicated to the U.S. Military, this Bavarian is a standout at any event. I would like to say a heartfelt Thank You to Lt. Dan and all of out military veterans and active personnel on this Memorial Day weekend.
