Top Gear – Battle to Determine the World’s Best Supercar

June 11th, 2024

This is a special treat from the gloomy shores of dreary old England. It’s a road and track battle between two of the baddest supercars on the planet. The cars involved in this clash are the McLaren 750S and the Ferrari 296 GTB.

We will roll out with (Top Gear Head of Car Testing) Ollie Marriage and (Contributing Editor) Jethro Bovingdon for some hairpin turns and high revving straights in a grudge match of sorts. You see, one of these steeds is a hybrid monster and the other is pure internal combustion. Catch a grip and hang on tight. This is going to be a real barn burner.

Hailing from the United Kingdom, the McLaren 750S is a mid-engine, 2-passenger, two-wheel drive coupe that packs a major punch. This stunning supercar is equipped with a twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. With the capacity to manufacture 760hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque, the McLaren 750S can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5-seconds and turn the quarter-mile in 9.9-seconds @ 139 mph.

The beautiful Italian is the Ferrari 296 GTB. As the hybrid portion of this equation, the 296 GTB features a twin turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 in conjunction with a single electric motor to generate the equivalent of 819hp and 546 lb.-ft. of torque. This hybrid hustler can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.4-seconds and clear the quarter-mile in 9.7-seconds @ 150 mph. The transmission is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. Believe me when I tell you, this is one of the most appealing cars you will ever see.

Time to hit the track.
